This position serves as full-time Deputy Director of the United States Mint. As such, the incumbent is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the United States Mint, executing the strategic objectives and policy priorities of decisions made by the Director of the United States Mint. The Deputy Director supervises all Associate Directors and Staff Officers, to ensure tactical implementation to achieve these objectives and priorities.

Direct, plan, and coordinate all functions in an effective and economical manner.
Assure that the Mint attains goals in all programs.
Determine internal policy and delegate authority to subordinates.
Assure the protection and safeguarding of assets throughout the Mint.
Assure that programs involving improved operating methods and procedures are initiated, plans expansion, consolidation and retrenchment, and promote efficiency to afford the greatest economy in operations.
Assure that proper budgetary control is exercised.
Direct the broad phases of the human resources program.
Occasional travel - 1 to 5 nights per month.

As a basic requirement for entry into the SES, you must provide evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive level management capability; and that is directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) and Technical/Professional Qualifications (TPQs) listed below. Typically, experience of this nature will have been gained at or above the GS-15 grade level in the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or non-governmental organizations.

ECQ 5: BUILDING COALITIONS - This core qualification involves the ability to build coalitions internally and with other Federal agencies, state and local governments, nonprofit and private sector organizations, foreign governments, or international organizations to achieve common goals. TCQ 1. Leads by example with only the highest level of integrity combined with organizational vision demonstrating the ability to manage and direct both regional and headquarters personnel for a large, complex manufacturing organization while balancing change and continuity, improving customer service, increasing program performance and ensuring accountability.
TCQ 2. Extensive executive engagement in working cooperatively with internal and external partners, with diverse and varied interests and viewpoints to achieve consensus on organizational goals and objectives, make recommendations for significant program improvements, and evaluate trends and their effects on the organization’s mission to achieve strategic metrics and reach key financial indicators.
TCQ 3. Expert skill in project and/or program management; ability to manage and direct a staff while incorporating program and policy initiatives pertaining to manufacturing, sales and marketing, financial management and/or information technology; demonstrated excellent communication skills to communicate persuasively to a wide range of audiences, to include top officials, senior executives and employees.
