Director of Engineering/Senior Engineering Manager - Cloud StorageThe Storage Cloud team designs, develops, tests, and releases storage services that cater to different customer workloads ranging from low-latency databases to high-throughput backups in Salesforce's web scale data centers. You will be part of a team that is responsible to drive innovation in persistent storage and create the next-gen scale-out distributed storage technology running in all Salesforce data centers.
We are looking for a strong engineering manager/director who will lead a small team of engineers to drive and execute this vision.

Be the voice of the team that eats, sleeps, and breathes services at cloud-scale.
You have experience balancing live-site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt.
Have strong, heartfelt opinions on topics such as on-disk data placement formats, data consistency, availability, I/O performance, disaster recovery, etc.
Excited by building reliable, self-healing services on unreliable hardware and providing a robust monitoring and management framework for these services.
Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers.
Enjoy playing the role of a product owner and scrum master for the storage service by defining the roadmap, chalking milestones and defining and tracking progress through sprints
Enjoy guiding and mentoring team members to reach the pinnacles of success, but you are always ready to get hands-on, if the situation demands
Strong technical credentials with 10+ years in software development; experience building storage services or storage products preferred
Hands-on manager with 4+ years of experience managing small teams
Experience in building strong, successful technical teams and coaching and mentoring individuals along their career paths
Ability to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment; communicate clearly to steer the strongly talented team to deliver a high quality service
Experience with C++ and/or Java in a Linux/UNIX data center environment
Ability to represent operational issues to senior leadership and dive deep into the technical details when required
