Functions/Duties of Position

Oregon Health & Science University Department of Behavioral Neuroscience is recruiting a Research Associate to lead collaborative neuroscience studies between the Fair and Moghaddam labs focused on combining optogenetics with structural and functional connectivity measurements on a high field magnet (Bruker BioSpin 11.7 T) in rodents. The Research Associate will be involved in data acquisition and data analysis for these integrated structural and functional small animal brain imaging studies. Additional duties include:

  • Conducting rodent surgeries and trainings and a variety of routine laboratory duties
  • Manuscript writing in support of the goals of study
  • Presentation of data at national and international meetings
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Neuroscience, Physical Chemistry, biomedical engineering or related technical discipline and 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with rodent handling and live rodent MR imaging, preferably on a high field magnet
  • Work experience with MR imaging to interface with a variety of database, statistical, and imaging task and processing software, such as Matlab, Linux, SPSS, Systat, Access, AFNI, or FSL
  • Programming proficiency in languages, software, and platforms, such as MATLAB, C/C++, and Linux
  • Organizing tasks and setting priorities, working efficiently with minimum oversight, interacting constructively with faculty and staff, and the ability to be adaptable, creative, and a quick learner
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Optogenetics, rodent surgery and habituation experience
  • Experience with Bruker BioSpin 11.7 T
  • Experience with functional or structural brain imaging (i.e. MRI imaging)
