Department Summary

University Advancement is responsible for strategically positioning the UO with its various constituents and securing resources to further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: Advancement/UO Alumni Association, Development, Stewardship and Public Events, Advancement Operations, Federal Affairs, and State and Community Affairs.

Position Summary

The University of Oregon Alumni Association (UOAA) makes the UO stronger by fostering lifelong relationships, helping Ducks become champions, cheerleaders, ambassadors and advocates for the university. Launched in 1879 with five alumni, the UOAA is proud of its long history of keeping alumni connected to the university and offering a wide array of opportunities for service. With a membership of more than 27,000, the alumni association serves as an important connection to the university for the more than 220,000 alumni around the world. Our vision is to be among the very best alumni relations programs in the country, enriching the lives of Ducks and the UO.

In order to establish and cultivate lifelong relationships among alumni, the Program Manager, Alumni Engagement will serve as a representative for the organization’s multi-faceted University Advancement (UA) mission.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement (Advancement/UOAA), the Program Manager will work in consultation and collaboration with the Sr. Director, Alumni Relations and the Associate Director to advance the engagement strategy for alumni in Portland and beyond. This strategy will be reliant upon input from and engagement with the Associate VP, Advancement/Executive Director, UOAA, in addition to collaboration with regional major gift officers assigned to various geographic territories.

This position requires access to transportation for occasional travel to meetings and events.

This position must be able to work occasional nights and/or weekends to fulfill special projects and events.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• One year of full-time (or equivalent) experience in program management (including budgeting) within a higher education or non-profit setting.

• Three or more years’ experience in progressive volunteer management roles with the same nonprofit organization, and/or one year’s experience managing volunteer programs from a staff standpoint.

Professional Competencies

• Demonstrated ability to build and manage programs and develop strategies to achieve operating goals.

• Experience with financial management and budgeting.

• Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

• Experience with project management and organization.

• Demonstrated ability to plan and design events.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and others as appropriate.

• Proven proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook (or similar scheduling/calendar program), and familiarity with Microsoft Office and routine software applications.

• Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.

• Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.

• Ability to adapt as new situations arise.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with alumni relations and advancement in a higher education setting.

• Experience managing a volunteer Board of Directors within a nonprofit setting.

• Experience working in higher education.

• Experience working remotely, or in a setting with limited direct supervision.

• Familiarity with the University of Oregon and UOAA.
