VMware Solution Engineering Manager - Commercial in Palo Alto, California

Due to the tremendous success we have enjoyed, an exciting opportunity exists within our organization for a high caliber Pre-Sales Solution Engineering Manager (SEM) to lead the Commercial West Solution Engineering team.

Essential to our customer’s success is the role of the SE leader; to lead the Solution Engineers that guide those customers through the intricacies of VMware’s solutions, and prove technical fitness to their business needs. As an SE Manager, you will ensure proper development of the SEs across VMware technologies, domain expertise, and salesmanship. You will lead with credibility, ensuring that you know our solutions and can step in when needed and help one of your SE's out. You will be highly engaged with customers yourself, helping to articulate VMware’s strategy at a higher level. You will support the company’s strategy, encouraging your team to execute the mission as it pertains to their function. And finally, you will craft a strong franchise alongside your Regional Sales Managers, running the business as though you are executive leaders of a small company.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train and maintain the best of the best Solution Engineers to help with the growth of our business.

  • Work closely with Americas Regional Director(s) to identify “line-of-sight” to the quarterly plans. The plan should incorporate all dimensions of the business, including how to overachieve the target, customer whitespace to pursue, how partners and ecosystem are leveraged, marketing, networking through industry associations, etc.

  • Increase the performance of your direct reports through mentoring and coaching.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time

  • Develop a business plan to drive sales with the Commercial account sales team.

  • Be responsible for achieving sales targets through the Commercial account team.

  • Emcee and present at executive briefings for customers and partners, peer segment leadership meetings, and industry events

  • Stay up to date on current events and be a student of the industry and culture.

  • Assist in technically closing complex and competitive opportunities by providing critical oversight of those directly engaged.

  • Celebrate key wins and successes of your team.

Background and Experience we are looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years management experience; 8 years Enterprise software industry experience.

  • Training & coaching experience, creating coaching development plans

  • Excellent understanding of channel and direct technical sales models.

  • Strong team-lead and mentoring experience.

  • Significant track record of accomplishment selling in Commercial.

  • Excellent grasp of technology and industry trends - with a focus on VMware and related knowledge.

  • BA/BS College Degree
