3M is seeking an experienced HMI Test / Prototype Engineer for the Electronics and Energy Business Group Lab located in Maplewood, MN. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.
The person hired for the position of HMI Test / Prototype Engineer will collaborate with other team members to design appropriate test parts and fixturing, while selecting and setting up appropriate test and measurement equipment to maximize test effectiveness. This person will develop deep understanding of HMI (HUD, CID, and DID) testing through direct customer and strategic partner engagement to prove feasibility of concepts and commercialization of novel new products.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Set-up HMI test laboratory
Design and prototype test buck, and develop key test procedures for HMI performance
Set-up and develop “buck” level testing for interiors
Planning, prioritizing and executing complex tests and procedures
Documenting test events and results in the appropriate format
Analyzing, interpreting and reporting test results with good attention to detail
Developing and assembling test measurement equipment
Executing other lab duties, including system design, setup, and equipment maintenance
Preparing, assembling and instrumenting parts for testing and evaluation
Executing all of the above with strong quality and safety focus
Directing technicians and data collection
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university
Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a product development environment
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
Minimum of five (5) years testing HUD and display related components
Experience with automotive industry including but not limited to experience with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs), tier 1, tier 2 and/or material suppliers
Microsoft Office experience: including spreadsheets, graphics, word processing, and data base management
Experience or knowledge of internal combustion engines
Mechanical aptitude and skills using a hands-on approach
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to analyze and solve problems and implement solutions
Innovation skills such as developing new ideas and alternate solutions
Can-do/will do attitude
Strong safety focus, follow good safety practices
Strong quality focus
Successful history of positive contributions in a team environment
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 15% travel
