Job Description Summary

The position holder is responsible for developing and maintaining an effective public policy and market development program for the country grouping. In conjunction with the local leadership team/s and regional functional specialists, the individual will be required to ensure that national policy priority areas, aligned to market development goals and opportunities, are identified and strategies developed in order that BD can effectively engage to inform and support the external decision making processes.

The job holder will have prime responsibility for developing and maintaining effective relationships with relevant opinion formers, policy influencers, policy makers and senior decision makers in and around the healthcare system, as well as managing the effective engagement of relevant BD players as required. The responsibilities also include helping ensure that BD is organised to effectively engage with significant procurement organisations.

The role is focused on ensuring that BD is recognised as a valuable partner in policy development and implementation and is able to effectively utilise this status so that BD’s present and future capabilities can be fully utilised to the benefit of health systems and patients.

Main Responsibilities:

Identify national and regional policy areas that will impact BD’s ability to meet its goals.

Identify opportunities to expand or otherwise improve BD’s relevance and contribution to healthcare delivery via a positive influence of national policy and funding decisions.

Develop and maintain collaborative relations with a range of external and internal stakeholders.

Educate local BD management on the workings of the national political systems and the impacts that this can have on market development.

Develop clear business proposals for public policy programs and activities.

Skills and Experience :

A relevant degree or equivalent (political sciences, economics, life sciences, business or possibly behavioural science).

Relevant experience working in a corporate public policy or advocacy role, a consulting agency focused on advocacy, health interest group or association.

Strong knowledge of the factors which influence local, national, regional and global legislative and health and social polices.

Experience of working with politicians, civil servants and political parties at both national and regional level.

Good understanding of the national political systems and operating environment, including structures, institutions, committees and processes and media networks.
