We are seeking a Financial Manager for our Home Office in the Houston Galleria area. The Financial Manager is responsible for the monthly, quarterly and annual accounting of financial information in the Company’s general ledger system. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Financial Manager supervises the general ledger team, both senior staff accountants and the Offshore team in India, and is responsible for managing the general ledger team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and account reconciliation as well year end audit and tax preparation. The Financial Manager reports to the Corporate Controller and will work closely with Financial Reporting, the Payroll Department, Banking and Field personnel, addressing inquiries related to the Company’s accounting and financial records.

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of all the Company’s general ledger processes and structures.

  • Ensure the monthly, quarterly and yearly close procedures are completed by the established deadlines.

  • Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all departmental, reporting and tax deadlines are met.

  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.

  • Monitor and analyze department workflow to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  • Develop procedures to handle non-routine transaction and train the general ledger staff accordingly

  • Responsible for the review of all general ledger staff’s assigned account reconciliation and variance analysis. This includes insuring that all reconciling items are investigated and resolved on a timely basis.

  • Responsible for the reconciliation of general ledger accounts specifically assigned to the Financial Manager. This includes insuring that all reconciling items are investigated and resolved on a timely basis.

  • Respond to inquiries from the Chief Accounting Officer, Corporate Controller, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and other inquiries.

  • Ensure that adequate internal controls are in place to safeguard company assets through standardized accounting policies and procedures, separation of duties, and use of management information systems and controls.

  • Assist with the acquisition integration of accounting records, cost analysis, new systems implementation, etc.

  • Assist Controller with the management and timely completion of the year-end financial audit.

  • Develop the existing general ledger team with a focus on their individual growth and accomplishment.

  • Handle personnel issues relating to general ledger staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.

  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with company personnel, departments, and management.

  • Help in assembling special reports as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting

  • Minimum of three years public accounting experience with Big 4 accounting firms

  • Minimum of three years in industry in a supervisory role.

  • Current and extensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles is required

  • Exceptional PC and spreadsheet skills a must

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Prior experience coaching, developing, and leading a team of at least 2 members

  • Knowledge of internal controls and auditing procedures

  • Knowledge of mainframe and personal computer accounting environments
