JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Identification

Short Job Description:

The System Engineer II provides design and integration for both medium sized projects and/or larger more complex projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Providing design drawings using AutoCAD. Depending on the size of the project, the incumbent is responsible

  • for all or a portion of the line drawings.

  • Providing designs for automation systems including a list of quantities and types of materials used.

  • Providing cost estimates for small projects or portions of larger projects.

  • Understanding product types and applications and grades of materials; ensuring materials meet specifications

  • and budget.

  • Design and integrate SCADA systems for medium or large sized projects. (WINPM, GE intellution fix, Wonderware, Factory Talk, LabView)

  • Design and implementation of industrial networks (Modbus plus, Profibus, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, LON works, TCP/IP, FINS Ethernet, BACnet, and SNP).

  • Integration of historian and OSI PI based data collection/archive.

  • Engineering user end custom applications using VBA, SQL.

  • Integrate alarm and event messaging systems using WIN911 and Emergin Integration Suite.

  • System design activities including researching alternative solutions and providing decision analysis reports.

  • Provide user guideline documentations and manuals for user end programs and applications.

  • Design and develop factory acceptance tests.

  • Investigate root cause of system issues and define corrective action.

  • Experience with Windows operating systems, database technologies, web application servers, and/or automated testing tools.

  • Diagnose, analyze and troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues.

  • Provide network administrative services using Active Directory.

Job Working Conditions and Environment:

This position requires flexible work hours and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. In order to get a project completed on time, employees are often required to work overtime, weekends and night shifts.

Job Interactions

  • Reports To: The incumbent reports to more experienced System Designers and the Systems Design Manager.

  • Supervises: The incumbent supervises less experienced System Designers.

  • Works With: The incumbent works with Engineers and other System Designers.

  • Company External: This position requires coordinating work with outside contractors.

Job Specifications

Years of Experience:

  • Direct project technical execution experience with at least two (2) of the following industrial application settings: Material Handling Systems (Conveyor, etc.), Pharmaceutical Process Control, Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry, Water & Waste Water Treatment, Electrical Power Distribution, and Security & Surveillance Systems.

Formal Education:

  • The incumbent must possess either a Masters + 1 yr or B.S. + 5 yrs experience, degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology or related.

Personal Skills:

This position requires:

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints and drawings.

  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.

  • Generating high quality work.

  • Working well with others in order to reach a common goal.

Work Experience:

This position requires:

  • Knowledge of the latest edition of the National Electrical Code.

  • Knowledge of server operating systems (Win2K server, Win2K advanced server, etc.).

  • Knowledge of network architecture (Ethernet, leased lines, etc.).

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and back office applications including SQL Server, enterprise backup systems, etc

Physical Abilities:

This position requires the incumbent to:

  • Sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.

  • Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.

  • Have finger dexterity in order to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, for example, using a keyboard.

  • View a computer screen for extended periods of time.

Use of Tools:

The incumbent must have:

  • Knowledge of Visual Basic

  • AutoCAD

  • PLC/HMI

  • SCADA

  • This position may require ongoing or intermittent use of a company vehicle. Selected candidates must possess an acceptable driving record in accordance to our policy.
