General Summary: An orthopedic technician assists with the care and treatment of orthopedic patients

EssentialJob Responsibilities:

  1. Adheres to andsupports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and proceduresof Tenet Physician Resources.

  2. Adheres to the TenetHIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.

  3. Demonstrates supportfor the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of complianceresponsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal andstate laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policiesthat affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reportingcompliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

  4. Assists in the care of patients byfitting and applying pre-operative braces, crutches and other soft goods

  5. Prepare and apply casts andorthopedic appliances

  6. Preparepatients for all testing procedures.

  7. Assisting with orthopedicprocedures, including but not limited to: wound care, aspirations, minorsurgical procedures and fracture reductions.

  8. Maintains a clean, orderly andsafe environment for patients and visitors.This includes cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments inaccordance with practice policies.

  9. Properlycomplete patient routing slips and charge tickets with all appropriate CPTcodes and corresponding ICD codes.

  10. Complies with established personalprotective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure toblood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation,and other hazardous substances.

  11. Demonstrates responsibility forprofessionalism, personal growth and development including projecting apositive attitude toward the operation, completing assignments in a timely andcost efficient manner, accepting and responding to positive criticism.

  12. Observeradiation safety and OSHA guidelines.

  13. Inventory, order and maintain all departmental supplies at definedinventory levels.

  14. Assist with additional responsibilities as needed.

Education: Graduate of an approved school ofnuclear medicine and registered or registry-eligible as Nuclear MedicineTechnologist.

Certification : Orthopedic Technician Certification from the National Board for Certification on Orthopedic Technicians preferred. CPR certification.

Experience: Work requires a level knowledge of patient care methods, procedures and techniques. One year experience in orthopedic setting

  1. Knowledgeof anatomy, physiology and medical terminology and expertise in thedifferent materials and equipment involved in casts, splints and braces

  2. Knowledge ofusing medical equipment including stethoscope, scales, and blood pressurecuff, etc.

  3. Knowledge of ElectronicHealth Systems.

  4. Knowledge of ICD-9and CPT codes.

  5. Knowledge of thepolicies and procedures of a clinic sufficient to provide effectivepatient care.
