Telular Tax Accounting Manager in Chicago, Illinois

The Tax Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring Telular’s compliance with tax filing and payment requirements, and managing other compliance duties imposed by state and local authorities. Tax responsibilities will include federal and state income taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, and other miscellaneous business taxes. This position is also responsible for determinations of tax nexus and making recommendations regarding the jurisdictions in which Telular files tax returns.

  • Work with outside tax consultants to prepare and file federal and state income tax returns.

  • Ensure the timely remittance of income tax payments.

  • Manage the process of determining tax nexus in state, local, and foreign jurisdictions.

  • Research the taxability of revenue streams, with the assistance of outside tax consultants as needed.

  • Ensure the timely filing and payment of sales & use taxes, personal property taxes, foreign taxes, and other miscellaneous business taxes.

  • Maintain customer sales tax exemption certificates and obtain renewals as needed.

  • Maintain company tax information and records.

  • Investigate and respond to tax notices received from taxing authorities; manage tax audits initiated by taxing authorities.

  • Prepare and submit annual reports, census reports, and other reporting requirements imposed by state, local, and foreign authorities.

  • Assist in the preparation of the income tax provision for financial reporting, as well as tax-related footnotes for financial statements.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of relevant tax experience in a corporate tax or professional services setting.

  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state tax requirements; understanding of Canadian tax compliance is a preferred.

  • Experience with tax nexus analysis is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong interpersonal communication (written and verbal) skills.

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel.

  • Expertise in Avalara tax software is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP is a plus.
