Legal Counsel – Consumer Business Unit

Role based in Dublin, Ireland

The EMEA Legal team is responsible for all legal support for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region through the advice and provision of a range of legal services (including sales agreements, litigation, employment law, marketing, and corporate). Reporting to the Director - EMEA Legal, the Legal Counsel will provide support to the Consumer Business Unit across the region, with a focus on online identity protection products.

Main responsibilities:

  • Serve as trusted legal advisor for all business partners across EMEA, including sales, marketing, products, finance & customer support teams.

  • Provide strategic advice and training on regulatory matters, including financial services aspects such as insurance, credit monitoring/information services and data protection regulations.

  • Assist the business in structuring complex transactions, incl. review, negotiation, localization and drafting of all types of contractual documents, including end user consumer licensing and service terms, RFPs and b2b contracts with key vendors and partners.

  • Manage liaison with regulator(s), and lead initiatives to implement and maintain necessary licenses and registrations. Manage general compliance with applicable regulations, including necessary record keeping and reporting.

  • Assist in recruitment, supervision and mentoring of compliance support staff as required.

  • Provision of practical legal support on related or other matters from time to time, according to candidate’s skill set & business needs, including: advertising & marketing, ecommerce, & competition law.

  • Keep abreast of relevant legislation and legal developments across EMEA and advise internal company stakeholders on impact of new legal developments and necessary changes.

  • Supporting global and EMEA Legal team members on ad hoc projects.

Personal Profile & Essential Requirements:

  • Dual qualified lawyer (Ireland and UK), with proven post qualification experience in commercial law, financial services, & tech -- +5 years.

  • Significant experience in drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts.

  • Experience of working with financial services regulators

  • Confident and professional communication, presentation and negotiation skills.

  • Self-disciplined, highly organized and able to work without supervision and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines; excellent project management skills.

  • Able to provide accurate, high-quality yet practical and concise legal advice.

  • Flexible and adaptable in a changing and challenging environment.

  • Excellent customer focus skills, both internal and external.

  • Comfortable working with a ‘multi-site’ team based around Europe.

  • IT Literate, with working knowledge of using Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

  • Fluent in English.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge of relevant laws and legal systems in other jurisdiction(s) in Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

  • Second European language.

  • Interest and knowledge of technology and current trends in financial / tech industry.

  • Experience working for US publicly-traded company; understanding of revenue recognition principles, Sarbanes-Oxley etc
