Emory University Fellowship/Associate - Department of Surgery - Burn Fellow in atlanta, Georgia
The Department of Surgery of Emory University at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, is actively seeking a qualified candidate at the PGY6 level (by July 2019 and graduate of general surgery residency) for a burn fellowship position in an American Burn Association verified Adult and Pediatric Burn Unit at Grady Memorial Hospital. This is a non-ACGME fellowship position overseen by Walter Ingram MD, Medical Director of the Burn Unit at GMH and Emory Associate Professor of Surgery. In addition to the Director, two other burn surgeons, Juvonda Hodge MD and Rachael Williams MD MHS participate actively in clinical and research work in the burn unit.
Grady’s Burn Unit admits over 500 patients a year in a contemporary facility that provides comprehensive burn care where patients are cared for from ICU to step-down, floor and outpatient clinic by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and other ancillary staff. It is the only burn center in Georgia backed by a Level I Trauma Center (the Trauma Center admits over 3,000 patients a year). Nursing staff is trained in critical care with PALS and ABLS certification and have over 200 years of experience in Burn care. See link for additional information about the Center:.
Responsibilities include supervision and teaching of a resident team that consists of a PGY3, PGY2, PGY1 and an advanced practice provider (PA) along with medical/PA students. Integral involvement with ICU rounds and the operating room is expected. There are extraordinary opportunities for clinical research based on patient volumes and acuity. The ideal candidate should have a background or strong interest in clinical research (candidates with MPH, MSc or similar degree are very welcome to apply). Individual consideration may be given for additional year of surgical critical care to qualify for ABS SCC board certification.
