The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal, and Urban operated facilities and programs.

This position is located at the Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center, Division of Clinical Services, Department of Pharmacy, Zuni, New Mexico. This position reports to the Chief Pharmacist. The primary function of the position is serving as the Deputy Pharmacist. Assisting the Supervisory (Chief) Pharmacist in all matters pertaining to the pharmaceutical services, including serving as the primary supervisor providing administrative and technical guidance to the Pharmacy Technicians.
Area of Consideration: All Sources
- As the Deputy Pharmacist is responsible and accountable for all day-to-day activities. Provides administrative and technical supervision to assigned staff. Manages conflict resolution and promotes positive morale among staff.
- Provides pharmacy services. Dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals for both inpatients and outpatients. Records pertinent information in patient's medical record and maintains all necessary prescription records.

To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. Education: Four-year bachelor's degree in pharmacy recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
Licensure: All applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements:
Candidates must have 52 weeks of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-09 grade level.
Professional Pharmacy Experience: Demonstrated professional experience in directing a hospital or clinic pharmacy program which include experience in supervising staff, directing all activities in pharmacy, developing and implementing pharmacy policies and procedures, experience in working with accreditation standards and performance improvement activities.
Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Public Health Service (PHS) Licensure Policy: Each PHS Pharmacist must possess and maintain a valid license in a State.
