Researches, plans, designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates electronic and electrical systems. Evaluates vendor capabilities, technologies, services and ability to deliver required products or services. Recommends design approaches for new or improved products and processes. Provides engineering consultation to other technical groups. Conducts and supports subsystem and system integration and verification activities, manufacturing and test planning, and failure analysis. Ensures technical outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Applies advanced knowledge of engineering and scientific principles and practices in area of specialized expertise to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
Provides technical leadership, consultation, or guidance to specialized engineering groups and other technical personnel.
Conceptualizes, creates, and analyzes designs to ensure engineering projects meet technical, cost, quality, and performance requirements.
Develops and writes technical documentation, makes revisions to existing documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations. May deliver technical presentations.
Initiates and maintains external contacts with key experts and officials of other companies, national labs, academic institutions, and government agencies.
Performs technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results to solve complex engineering problems, using specialized equipment, or by creating computer programs, models, or simulations.
Performs electrical and/or electronic repairs using approved methods.
Prepares, presents, and defends project technical results and recommendations to customers. Participates in formal technical reviews.
Prepares technical and cost portions of proposals related to area of expertise.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering discipline(s), industry practices, trends, and applications. Advises senior management on new developments and programs.
May direct the work of less senior technical personnel.
Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.
Note: This is a 2nd shift position. Monday through Friday. 3:30pm - midnight.
Minimum Education And Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Required Skills And Education
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus technical co-op/intern experience; or a M.S. degree in a relevant technical discipline
Working knowledge of electrical engineering tools is highly desired
Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant technical field of specialization.
Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.
Ability to prepare technical reports, papers, and presentations and deliver them in written and oral form to customers, industry leaders, and senior management.
Ability to solve moderately complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.
Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
Experience working with electrical/electronic systems of military ground vehicles
Working knowledge of military electrical connector and electrical cabling specifications
SAEJ1939 CANBus, 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet Protocols
Integration of military communication/antenna systems including BFT, SINCGARS, DAGR, CREW2
Experience using lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, CAN, DAC/ADC converters) for test and verification is a must.
The candidate must have the ability to access and move about a large military vehicle during integration and test activities.
Excellent ability to rapidly troubleshoot and isolate system level problems discovered during production, ability to determine root cause including design defects and production/supplier defects, and ability to recommend near-term workarounds.
Regularly required to sit; frequently required to move about, and reach with hands and arms; may occasionally be required to balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Normal office environment. May require visits or assignments to shop or production areas, test facilities, or customer sites. May require travel.
