HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Mid Level Provider Valve Clinic in Wichita, Kansas

The Mid-Level Provider Cardiovascular:

  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, and adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements the care of valve patients in the outpatient setting

  • Acts as a liaison with the physicians, patient/families and ancillary departments

  • Assess financial, medical, and social resources of current and potential valve program patients in conjunction with the research team

  • Coordinates information flow among the medical, nursing, financial, and research staff appropriately

  • Responsible for development and implementation of teaching plan with the patient and family including medication overview, lab values, and diagnosis related information

  • Assist research team in the coordination of patient charts, diagnostic studies, and other applicable information per research protocol

  • Perform direct patient care within the scope of the nurse practice act, as it applies to the outcomes of processes in the Wesley Valve Clinic

  • Review and order medications appropriate to the valve patient per protocol

  • Serve as a resource for the hospital staff regarding the care of the valve patient

  • Collaborate with the Public Relations department to develop the business and marketing development of the Valve Clinic

  • Responsible for full nursing assessment of clinic patients, including documentation of vital signs, signs and symptoms of disease process, NYHA and angina class

  • Responsible for reviewing all diagnostic imaging studies, lab values, and notify physician as appropriate for abnormal findings

  • Re-evaluate patient post discharge at home or nursing home as required

  • Re-evaluate and understand reports and findings

  • Produce Power Point presentations which incorporate multiple diagnostic modalities including cardiac left/right Cath, Echo, Nuclear, Carotid studies, TEE and CTA

  • Follow up care via phone conversations

  • Coordinate, implement and follow the care plan for each patient from the patient identification to discharge

  • See and round on pre and post TAVR patients and other patients with structural heart disease

  • Schedule patients for clinic visits

Required Registration, Licensure or Certification

  • Current Kansas State Board of Healing Arts: Physician Assistant or

  • Current Kansas State Board of Nursing: Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse

  • Approved credentialing from the Wesley Medical Staff Office

  • Current Basic Life support (BLS) verification course, as specified in policy

  • Successful completion of the Wesley Dysrhythmia exam within allotted timeframe, as specified in policy

  • Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS) verification course, as specified in policy

Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification

  • DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency Registration)

Required Education or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Physicians Assistant or Master's Degree in Nursing

  • Completion of ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant Education Program or Kansas State Board of Nursing approved Nurse Practitioner Education Program

  • Previous experience in working with Critical Care/Valve patients

Preferred Education or Experience

  • Previous experience with program coordinator and development

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Expert clinical skills and problem solving abilities including understanding and applying medical principles at an advanced level

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collegial relationship with other healthcare providers

  • Recognizes limitations and consults or refers appropriately

  • Ability to manipulation Dicom images

  • Ability to coordinate care amongst multiple specialties, hospitals ranging from Primary Care to Cardiothoracic Care

  • Ability to focus concentrated effort on multiple projects and re-establish priorities as necessary

  • Attention to detail that ensures follow through on all initiatives implemented and projects undertaken

  • Ability to understand multiple computer systems ranging across multiple institutions

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient at navigating current hospital imaging computer systems for Cath, Echo, EKG, MUSE, CT, and Radiology
