The Director of Surgical Services is responsible, for the planning, implementation and coordination of all daily operations within the Operating Room, ASU, PACU, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing on a 24 hour basis. This responsibility includes, but is not exclusive to, directing and supervising the personnel and delivery of care within these departments, managing and coordinating administrative issues within the respective departments and the progression of the surgical patients throughout the day, acting as liaison between the department’s staff, the physicians, and the Administrative Team. The individual in this position must be an exemplary nurse who is able to provide the safest, most effective nursing care to all surgical services patients utilizing the nursing process.

The Director of Surgical Services must be capable of interacting and collaborating with all members of the health care team and have the ability to work productively and cooperatively with community resources. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. The Director oversees the management of many expensive pieces of equipment and instrumentation. It is his/her responsibility to ensure that all members of the staff take proper care with the equipment and instruments. He/She is accountable for all areas of customer satisfaction including staff, physician, peer, patient, family and administration. This individual is required to be accountable for productivity of staff and department, ongoing financial and fiscal compliance and a proponent of goals, objectives, strategies and business plan(s) of the organizations he/she serves.


Education: 1. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. 2. Prefer Masters preparation in Nursing or Business 3. Current licensure/registration in the State of Florida.

Experience: 1. Five (5) or more years experience in the surgical services areas. 2. Three (3) or more years(s) Charge Nurse or leadership experience preferred.

Other Qualifications 1. Current Florida Nursing License. 2. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support card (by the completion of the ninety day probationary period). 3. Clinical experience and credentials consistent with years worked as an operating room nurse and years worked as a Registered Nurse. 4. Knowledge of JCAHO accreditation standards.

  • *Essential Duties:

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of his/her assigned patients. He/she is responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel. This position requires an intimate knowledge of both departmental and hospital-wide policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretative skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations along with management and supervisory skills are inherent in the position. The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory, and/or visual fashion is essential.
