BAE Systems Eng Sr - Sys Safety in Washington, District Of Columbia
The Systems Safety Engineer will focus on the prevention of unplanned events that have the potential to harm people, property, or the environment.The successful candidate will provide specialized safety input to the design process, thus ensuring that safety requirements are properly integrated into project planning, design criteria, construction plans and specifications and subcontracts. They will also review and provide input to construction documents for safety-related implications to ensure safety considerations code requirements are properly addressed.

Performs risk identification, assessment, and management of safety related issues. Identifies risk handling options. Establishes criteria for acceptable and reportable levels of risk. Identifies residual risk to appropriate levels of management and customers.
Participates in system engineering effort to evaluate customer's operational needs. Identifies and adapts safety requirements for incorporation into design requirements documents to meet program and regulatory objectives. Conducts safety requirements verification and validation. Assists the design team in the evaluation and integration of changes into the design and operational processes.
Maintains hazard tracking safety data to identify emerging threats and perform risk assessments. Customizes reports to meet specific customer and/or program needs.
Review contractor documentation for safety implications and to assess risk levels and mitigation strategies. Develop, review, and coordinate hazard analysis Conduct detailed task and process hazard analysis and risk assessments. Complete code compliance reviews.
Attends meetings as required to advise stakeholders of specialized safety and health requirements that may affect project design, construction schedule, and cost.
Interprets federal state,and local laws, regulations, and orders as they apply to safety practices, and ensures that existing facilities (or facility designs) are in compliance with the appropriate statutes and regulations, and that regulatory reporting requirements are met. Monitors changes to regulatory requirements and implements changes as required. Interacts with federal, state and local regulators to resolve compliance issues.
Support efforts include, but are not limited to, providing technical assistance in the preparation of document text, technical review of documents, review,correlation and adjudication of comments received on technical documents, and preparation of final drafts of these documents for publication.
Minimum Education And Experience
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience

Degree in a Safety Engineering or Occupational Health, preferred will consider science, other engineeringdisciplines or similar and at least five years professional work experience in Safety, Process Safety or Engineering field
AssociateSafety Professional (ASP) certification or other professional ES&H certificationfrom an accredited organization
Working knowledge of MIL-STDs 882, 1472, and 1474
Ability and eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (US citizenship required)
Ability and Willingnessto travel, up to 10%
Abilityto lead and participate on both intra-office and cross-organizationalteams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
