Responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design,analysis, development, testing and control of engineering projects wherecreativity and initiative are involved as well as some independent judgment.Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering supportpersonnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group withspecific engineering objectives. Consults with supervisor as required.

  • Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
  • Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development
  • Performs complex design analysis
  • Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
  • Implements engineering changes
  • Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data
  • Defines system requirements
  • Solves engineering related problems
  • Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs
  • Releases parts and subsystems for production
  • Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Travel as required



  • Working knowledge of functional areas within plant
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Prior press plant experience - preferred


High level of knowledge of mainframe systems that support Service Planning Operations and their data structures

High level of expereince in System Re-Engineering and Systems Design


  • Working knowledge stamping, dies, and press systems

  • Working knowledge of functional areas within plant and SPO Purchasing, Supplier Management, and Engineering Organizations

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes

  • Prior stamping plant experience - preferred

  • Working knowledge of stamping manufacturing operations

  • Some work experience in a GM UAW Press Metal Fabrication Plant - required.


  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics and manufacturing methods engineering
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
  • Understanding of Microsoft Project and Excel
  • Ability to use Autocad
  • High level knowledge of Press systems
  • High level knowledgeof Press automation systems
  • Knowledge of Robotic Systems
  • 1-3 years experience


BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
