Manufacturing Engineering Interns and Co-ops will rotate through a series of positions and assignments in plant and corporate staff locations throughout the United States aimed to further development and educate. Most assignments will be located in Warren, MI and Pontiac, MI. Examples of Manufacturing Engineering assignments available include:

Electrical Controls Engineer

Electrical root cause analysis and problem solving

Programming of manufacturing technology

Analyzes product, process and technology to determine the best methods of manufacture

Assists in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes

Assists maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialized equipment

Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical root cause analysis and problem solving

Analyzes product, process and technology to determine the best methods of manufacture

Assists in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes

Assists maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialized equipment

Troubleshoots special maintenance and equipment problems

Coordinates machinery upgrade projects

Quality Engineer

Root cause analysis

Develop, monitor & facilitate corrective/preventative action

Design manufacturing processes to meet quality standards

Facilitate the use of process control, problem solving and quality improvement techniques

Facilitate implementation of common production quality processes and ISO requirements

Industrial Engineer

Analyze existing operations and propose improvements

Optimize floor space, materials, equipment and people

Assist in planning new facilities or relocation of existing facilities

Monitor adherence to safety procedures and good housekeeping practices

Assist in establishing operation methods and work standards using various measurement techniques

Manufacturing Engineering Centers of Expertise:

Global Vehicle Systems

Responsible for all value added systems from exit of Body Shop through shipping of finished vehicle

Develop & Validate New Manufacturing Technologies and BOE for Automation, Paint, and General Assembly Shops

Develop Processes, M&E and Tools for 70+ Assembly Plants, 40+ Stamping Plants, and approximately 50 launches each year globally

Develop, Validate, & Maintain Common Conveyance Systems and Controls

Teams work collaboratively with other centers to reduce energy and waste globally.

Global Body

Support new program launch and ongoing operations for 50 Stamping and 75 Body shops globally

Work collaboratively with the studios and Product Engineering to enable world class, manufacturable products

Process, design & install dies and weld tools to enable flawless launches for 50+ major & minor vehicle programs annually

Advanced Manufacturing Technology group develops and validates new technologies such as welding techniques, joining strategies, advanced materials and assembly processes

Focus on continuous improvement: reduce floor space & investment, improve manpower utilization & quality levels and develop robust manufacturing processes

Global Powertrain

Support 7 casting, 16 transmission and 31 Engine sites globally

Design, procure and implement lean manufacturing systems to produce manual and automatic transmissions, gas and diesel engines and their strategic castings.

Optimize the global footprint in collaboration with PT Product Engineering to ensure regional customer expectations are met.

Build launch effectiveness through the application of standardized work and rigorous execution of the launch wall process.

Work collaboratively with Manufacturing Planning and Powertrain Product Engineering to execute a new engine and transmission portfolio that will meet the challenges of the global fuel economy standards.

Reduce complexity and capital spending while optimizing logistics costs to develop the world’s strongest engine and transmission portfolio.

Creating and enhancing, GM’s ability to produce electric motors, fuel cells, and batteries, from the ground up.

With R&D, bring new Manufacturing technologies from Research to Reality

Global Integration

Drive identification and integration of common engineering processes across all ME Centers, Regions and manufacturing locations worldwide.

Integrate Industrial Engineering activities in support of programs and plant operations.

Ergonomic and 3D simulation of manufacturing processes

Efficiency in manufacturing layout / scanning / modeling of GM sites globally.

Optimize vehicle and powertrain manufacturing throughput

· Manage Data Security for Global Manufacturing

· Create Product Assembly Documentation to Support Mfg Plant operations

Qualifications:

Seeking students currently working on undergraduate or graduate degrees in the following majors:
