Department ALS (Advanced Life Support)


Provides the day to day operational leadership, work direction and performance accountability to the Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support and Critical Care divisions and the Communications Center and Medkab teams of HealthEast Medical Transportation in order to successfully meet the business needs of the organization.


  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Partners with HEMT leadership to review clinical and quality metrics and then determine appropriate strategies to achieve goals

  • Communicates appropriate metrics to staff and supports the Value Based Improvement process to achieve goals

  • Manages data reporting to support operational needs as assigned by manager

  • Maintains safe and appropriate staffing of employees to safely respond to calls in the community and provide high level service to operational customers

  • Manages the FTE levels and adds additional staff as necessary

  • Manages staffing in the absence of the Staffing Coordinator. Provides staffing coverage as needed to ensure minimum resources levels

  • Provides regularly scheduled field supervision. Provides on-call coverage and staffs trucks as needed or assigned by manager

  • Participates in internal and external process improvement review and initiatives. Reviews daily incident reports and form submission to insure problem resolution by conducting necessary investigations and comparing against established guidelines and time frames

  • Communicates timely performance expectations to staff and provides the opportunity for development through connections made with staff during rounding, department meetings, committee creation, and improvement activities. Initiates performance management process in a timely manner when performance expectations are not being met

  • Participates in field response and observation to all divisions and teams

  • Partners with and cooperates with Medical Director to create new medical guidelines and protocols and adds revisions as necessary

  • Acts as a liaison to external customers including other EMS entities, police, fire and emergency departments. Provides EMS command as established by policy and guidelines. Coordinates special event requests for the entire ambulance division

  • Partners with the Education department by making recommendations for and assisting in the educational needs of the operations team.


  • Associate's Degree

  • Associate's degree in management or related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Previous paramedic experience preferred

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred

  • Valid Drivers license and DMV record that meets the HealthEast insurability requirements

  • Ability to safely lift, push, pull and carry a minimum of 150 pounds
