Substitute teachers present instruction in accordance with an established lesson plan and curriculum to students in a classroom environment. AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) Tutors are advocates and role models for the students, responsible for reporting student progress to the teacher. They tutor students individually or in small groups, review the students notes, entertain questions and discussions, determine the concepts which need to be reviewed, work with students in any phase of the writing process, and correct students work.

DoDEA employs the best qualified professional staff to implement its program of learning. In order to qualify, you must meet one of the following criteria: a) baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association which includes 18 semester hours of course work in the field of professional teacher education; b) baccalaureate degree in any major; c) associate degree; or d) high school diploma or graduate equivalency diploma (GED).
Official college/university transcripts must be submitted along with the application packet. Transcripts must be in English. Any transcripts submitted that are not in English or not official will be removed from the application and will not be considered.
Foreign Education: If you are submitting transcripts from foreign colleges or universities, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
All candidates must be U.S. Citizens and reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. Selectee must undergo Background Checks IAW DoDI 1402.5 (e.g. Local Files Check, State Criminal History Records Check, and National Agency Check Inquiries). Employment in these positions is subject to successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet/maintain these requirements may be grounds for termination.
Substitute teachers work when needed and have no guaranteed tour of duty.

Locality Pay: Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area. Locality rates of pay in CONUS will not be used for pay setting when transferring to an overseas/foreign area.
Citizenship/Ordinarily Resident Status: Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must not hold Dual Citizenship in the country they are applying within and who are not considered Ordinarily Resident under the applicable Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). An ordinarily resident is anyone who has lived in the host country longer than the allowed number of days without being a member of the forces assigned, civilian component or a family member of either the aforementioned or who has obtained a work permit for any duration. Ordinarily Resident restrictions apply and vary depending on the host nation.**
Dual citizens will not be appointed to positions within the country in which they hold dual citizenship. Citizenship eligibility will be verified prior to appointment.
UK Positions: Selectee will be required to have a Visa if the position is located in the United Kingdom.
Family member appointments:will expire based on the sponsor's rotation date. Family member appointments may not exceed two months after an employee is no longer considered a family member within the local commuting area due to PCS or divorce of sponsor or, in the case of a child, the age of 23. Family members are defined according to the DODI 1400.25, Vol.1232 as: For a military member whose duty station is in a foreign area, the member's spouse or unmarried dependent child. For a civilian US employee as defined by section 2105 of Title 5, United States Code, the employee's spouse, domestic partner, or unmarried dependent child, or unmarried child of the employee's spouse or domestic partner. A family member must physically reside with his or her sponsor to receive family member preference.
