Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Include the maintenance and repair of jobsite equipment such as semi tractors, pickup trucks, wheel loaders, cranes, excavators, large rotary drills, tracked dozers, air compressors, and other support equipment. Primary activities include ensuring vehicle and equipment productivity remains high on the project job site. The mechanics primary focus is preventative and proactive maintenance including a thorough inspection of vehicles and equipment to keep the machinery working as efficiently as possible, while still stressing and adhering to a high level of safety on every jobsite and on every task. This position will also require a willingness to work under various site conditions and a readiness to travel to different project sites nationwide.

Locations as assigned throughout North America. Work is performed on large-scale civil construction project sites where productivity is highly dependent upon equipment and vehicle availability.

Position reports directly to the Field Mechanic Foreman, and must be able to work competently without direct supervision.

Expectation of Knowledge & Skills
This position requires high-level of mechanical understanding, including a natural cognitive diagnostic aptitude. A disposition for engineering, problem solving, and the conceptual abilities necessary to intuitively diagnose and accurately fix a problem are expected. The best applicants have computer controls knowledge, advanced hydraulic systems knowledge, basic welding and fabrication skills, good interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to make quick and sound decisions based on the limited facts available. Successful candidates work well with people and display a self-starter attitude. Repairs are expected to be of very high quality (e.g. solder, seal, shrink), durable (e.g. sufficient bend radius, protective wraps) and must be well documented within the computer-based equipment maintenance system with emphasis on COMPLAINT – CAUSE – CORRECTION for each task performed.
Candidate should also possess sound work habits such as punctuality, display good organizational attributes, excellent time management, and a high level of dependability. Additional qualities include a passion for learning new things, a desire to improve the overall efficiency by completing related task timely without constant supervision. This would also include accepting direction and corrective feedback on the safe, proper, or preferred techniques or methods approved by the equipment superintendent. Furthermore, since maintenance is always recognized as a support department, candidate must work well with others in order to support multiple departments and fleet requirements.

This policy is implemented consistently and uniformly on all jobsites. Personal Protective Equipment is required at all times.
