Job Title: Operations Management Supervisor
Location: Vandenberg AFB, CA
Oversee the operation and maintenance of telecommunications routers, switches and devices, and a complex configuration of multiple vendor products and systems
Following DISA processes and coordinating with multiple entities including DISA, change, installation and testing of networking systems and projects
Oversee troubleshooting of telecommunications networks; coordinating outage resolutions with multiple distant end sites
Establish and maintain procedures involving the tasks to maintain telecommunications networking systems
Perform “hands-on” training with subordinates; establish and maintain training guidance documentation
Oversee Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) Earth Terminal operations and maintenance. Oversee and aid in troubleshooting, requirements satisfaction, data collection and interpretation.
Follow DISA processes and coordinate with multiple entities including DISA and WGS Earth Terminal Depot on change, installation and testing of satellite communications systems and projects
Coordinate, liaison and represent our “level 1” organizational maintenance and “level 2” depot maintenance activities; including PDMs, EDLMs and UDLMs and new projects.
Review and comment on “minor modifications” to systems’ software, hardware and technical processes. Review the plans for these modifications, and verify they are within technical capabilities of the team. Verify the documentation, tools and equipment necessary to execute the modification is available for the O&M technicians. Report findings to the site team, and share information with the entire program through correspondence and at meetings.
Verify proper logistics support for the site’s maintenance activities, to include ready spares as allotted, proper tools and test equipment available, and parts ordering processes run fluidly on site and quickly respond to needs.
Oversee and verify inventories of spares, supplies, tools and equipment, and verify proper and accurate updates to applicable inventory documentation.
Verify personnel comply with contractor conduct and training requirements. Verify personnel are trained to participate in all 50 SW or higher exercises.
Oversee successful implementation of the WGS Earth Terminal Training Program.
Oversee completion of site compliance checklists. Verify they answer all questions. Complete the required follow-up actions, with an action plan and timeline.
Develop a collaborative relationship with the customer leadership (Squadron Commanders, Detachment Commanders, Contract Officer Representatives [CORs], other military or civil service leadership).
Review and comment on modifications to systems. Review the plans for these modifications, and verify they are within technical capabilities of the team.
Identify the need for processes and process improvements to operations and maintenance activities. Develop and review maintenance related instructions, procedures and policies for accuracy, relevance and completeness.
Verify maintenance activities are properly scheduled, performed and documented. Use the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) to schedule, document and track maintenance activities, to include unscheduled equipment failures and preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs). Coordinate authorized service interruptions (ASIs or “down time”) with customers and AFSCN schedulers to perform PMIs.
BS degree involving IT, telecommunications or networking and 6 years experience; AS with 8 years; or equivalent specific, practical experience
DoD 8570.1 compliant certification for IAT-2, like Security+, CISSP, etc.
6 years of experience with monitoring or managing large telecommunications networks
6 years of experience with monitoring and managing IP switches, and associated crypto devices in the customer's network
6 years or more experience with DSCS or WGS Earth Terminals
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience with the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN)
Certifications involving networking, like CCNA, NNCP, Network+, etc.
Experience coordinating telecommunications projects involving installations, configuration changes, upgrades, etc.
This position requires the candidate to already possess an active Secret clearance and to maintain the clearance.
