NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED – This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Open to current members and those eligible for membership of the Arizona Air National Guard, in the rank of E2/Amn - E6/TSgt. Applicants will maintain their current military assignment.

This job announcement is for employment as an Arizona Air National Guard Technician; a Federal/ Excepted Civil Service position. This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in a National Guard unit/wing and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace.


This position is located at the 162nd Wing, Tucson, AZ, Air National Guard organization in the Distribution Section of the Deployment and Distribution Flight. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties relating to materiel distribution activities, including organic ground transportation for cargo and personnel.

Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (BONUS). Individual selected will be required to take a pre-employment medical screening which will be paid for by the Agency.

QUALIFICATION:Motor Vehicle Operator, WG-5703-08, E2-E6

Specialized Experience:

Must possess at least 12 months experience, education, or training operating primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds and/or truck tractors with semitrailers or full trailers to transport personnel or pick up and deliver supplies, materials or equipment. Incumbent couples and uncouples the truck tractor and semitrailer or truck and trailer, and connects and disconnects the air brakes and electrical lines. Incumbent maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles and when positioning vehicles at loading docks. Driver operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semitrailer or trailer from jackknifing. Assures cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured.

Incumbent operates electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches. Drives fork lift trucks over wood, concrete, or similar type floors through narrow aisles in buildings and in confined spaces. Transports items that are bulky and unwieldy utilizing appropriate load balance and adequate protection for items. Picks up items from supply points, local vendors and suppliers. Provides pick-up and delivery service for priority and routine shipments. Checks routing maintenance items on assigned vehicles such as oil, tire pressure, windshield washer fluids, power steering fluids and gas as per required preventive maintenance guidance. Keeps assigned vehicle in good appearance and assures it is in top-notch condition for periodic vehicle inspections.

Incumbent adheres to and enforces safety, fire, and housekeeping standards. Ensures safety procedures are followed when working with dangerous and hazardous cargo. Performs a variety of extensive servicing and light maintenance work on assigned vehicles. Assists in dispatching vehicles or in the issuance of forms, credit cards or military drivers' licenses.


  1. Knowledge of operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of more than 32,000 pounds such as truck tractors with semi or full trailers or heavy load in-line trucks.

  2. Ability to operate electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork-lift and other material handling equipment.

  3. Knowledge and ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle operation and meet cargo pickup and delivery schedules/deadlines.

  4. Knowledge and skills to perform a variety of preventive maintenance, servicing and light maintenance work on assigned vehicles.

  5. Knowledge of safety, fire, and housekeeping standards.
