NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Open to current members and those eligible for membership of the Arizona Air National Guard, in the rank of 1Lt/O1-Lt Col/O5 Applicants will maintain their current military assignment.
This job announcement is for employment as an Arizona Air National Guard Technician; a Federal/ Excepted Civil Service position. This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in a National Guard unit/wing and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace.
This position is located at the unit level in the Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group at the 162nd Wing, Tucson, Arizona ANG. The primary purpose of this position is to both personally pilot and to instruct others in the piloting of highly advanced military Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) which involves such functions as launch and recovery, surveillance, surface attack, full scale weapons employment, mortar to arm escort, killer scout, target illumination, laser targeting, functional flight tests, and flight testing. This position description is designed for those National Guard unmanned aircraft where the pilot is issuing flight control commands directly to the aircraft via "stick and rudder" as opposed to those where the operator inputs flight and navigational commands into a flight control system which determines the appropriate "piloting" actions. The incumbent performs limited supervisory duties over a small number of RPA pilots and instructor pilots. The supervisor responsibilities are performed for less than 25% of the average work time. Administers combat flight training to military aircrews. Instructs and evaluates pilots through a broad training spectrum, in addition to performing pilot duties. Initial Qualification Training (IQT): Training to qualify the aircrew in basic aircraft flying duties without specific regard to a unit operational mission. It is the minimum training requirement for Basic Aircraft Qualification (BAQ). Elements of instruction include: Basic and Advanced Handling Characteristics (throughout the full spectrum of the flight envelope), Instrument Flight, Instrument and Visual Traffic Patterns, Airborne Emergency Procedures and Patterns, Line of Sight (LOS C-Band) Fundamentals, KU Band Datalink Fundamentals, and Lost Link Logic/Profiles. Mission Qualification Training (MQT): Training required to achieve a basic level of competence in the unit's primary tasked missions. This training is a prerequisite for Basic Mission Capable (BMC) and Combat Mission Ready (CMR) status. Elements of instruction include, but are not limited to: Precision Strike; Close Air Support (CAS); Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR); Time Sensitive Targeting (TST); Armed Escort; and Killer Scout.

QUALIFICATION:AIRPLANE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, GS-2181-13, O1-O5
36 months experience in civilian aviation programs; or, military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components); or, in the Army National Guard Aviation Support facility; or, Air National Guard Wing/ Operations Group. Qualification competencies are determined by three factors: The aircraft operated; the nature and purpose of assignments; and, the degree of hazard. Experienced in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). Although a variety of piloting administrative tasks are performed in support of an Air National Guard aviation program, the required competence for this grade includes the ability to train and instruct others in the piloting of a specified main-frame military aircraft. Experienced in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information. Experienced in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings. Experienced in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning. Experienced in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE IN THIS POSITION:
Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
Experienced in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission specific tasks.
Experienced in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs.
Experienced in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
