L-3 Communications Manufacturing Engineer 2 - Vacuum Electronics [16-190] in Torrance, California
We currently have an opportunity for a manufacturing process engineer with knowledge of and hands-on experience working on vacuum electronic device manufacturing processes for high frequency microwave and millimeter wave power amplifier products. Microwave amplifiers are employed in a variety of applications including radar, electronic warfare, and high-speed data communications. This position will initially be located at our San Carlos, California location for approx. 6-9 months, then move to our Torrance, California facility when production relocates there.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support all manufacturing operations in a fast-paced production area, ensuring that key yield metrics are consistently met
Develop and implement processes in support of manufacturing activities
Document processes and procedures; conduct periodic training of assemblers and operators
Design, build, and test new equipment, tools, and fixtures for streamlining and improving manufacturing efficiency
Monitor key process parameters and analyze performance data. Identify risks and implement corrective actions. Spearhead continuous improvement efforts
Conduct cost estimation and budgeting activities. Introduce new cost-saving methods
As required, source new tools, equipment, and material suppliers to ensure the uninterrupted manufacture and continuous flow of product
Support manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and material review board (MRB) activities
Support internal and customer funded R&D efforts
Interface with customers to understand needs and requirements. Map customer requirements and expectations to product specifications and manufacturing activities.
You will need at least three years of manufacturing engineering experience, with experience in the microwave or RF device industry preferred. Other qualifications that will enable you to perform successfully in this position include:
Hands-on experience with standard manufacturing methods and production processes for microwave and millimeter wave traveling wave tubes (TWTs)
Hands-on experience with high temperature thermal processes for hermetically joining dissimilar materials, including brazing and diffusion bonding methods
Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting industrial furnaces for the heat treatment of metals and thermal processing of insulators
Good understanding of materials science and engineering principles for processing metals and insulators
Experience with mechanical design software such as SolidWorks
Ability to multi-task and interact effectively with colleagues from various disciplines, as well as customers
Excellent time management skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Microsoft Office skills
A bachelor’s degree in Materials, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is needed; a master’s degree is preferred.
US citizenship is required
