The purpose of this position is to serve as a senior level Dental Assistant who provides the full range of direct supervision, technical oversight, instruction and training for the Dental Assistant Staff. This position reports to the Supervisory Dental Officer.

Supervisory and Managerial Function duties:
- Plan and prepares work schedules of Dental Assistant Staff to meet dental program goals and objectives.
- Revises performance standards of Dental Assistant Staff performance, and timekeeping.
- Facilitates problem-solving related work by improving the effectiveness of the dental team.
- Monitoring of the proper maintenance of record systems related to patient care and treatment progress according to the standards of reporting and recording established by the service unit, Portland Area Indian Health and Indian Health Services.
- Ensures supply inventory is maintained and that ordering of dental supply needs are met for the department.
Direct Patient Care Tasks:
- Passes instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Performs preventive, periodontal, restorative, pediatric, endodontic, and prosthetic dentistry.
- Accomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocols.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Radiological Certification Requirements: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1)have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
Dental Assistants who wish to be considered for positions requiring performance of dental radiology duties must have a current IHS or State dental radiological health and safety certification of competency or proof of otherwise meeting the requirement. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-8: Must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: providing dental assistance to general or specialized dentistry and in dental assistant expanded function work that includes preforming complex alloy restoration (pin retention and cusp buildups), and complex composite restoration which involves multiple surfaces and incisal angles.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR SUPERVISORY POSITION:
Although the paramount requirement for this job have specific subject-matter knowledge and skill requirements (i.e., technical requirements) candidates for this job must also meet certain competencies listed below that reflect those considered as most important for successful performance of Federal supervisory work.
