Sheffield is home to some of the UK’s most iconic sweets brands: Maynards, Trebor and Bassett’s. It’s the largest sugar confectionery plant in the Mondelēz International network across Europe and produces approx 40,000 tonnes of sweets each year.

The Manufacturing Section Manager role is a key site leadership position with overall responsibility for a manufacturing business unit within the Mondelēz International Sheffield Plant. It is a role that requires leadership and motivation of staff at multiple levels to ensure effective delivery of the annual site production plan.

The Manufacturing Section Manager is the primary accountable for £6M budgetary responsibility and approximately 90 heads including Operators, Line Leaders and supporting functions.

The position has been established to drive value opportunities that span the ‘End to End’ business process in which they operate. The role holder will create operational and financial value through challenging the normal assumptions and forward thinking.

Development of a strong process and continuous improvement culture is expected through building the capabilities of the teams within the section.

As the Manufacturing Section Manager reporting into the Head of Manufacturing, you will create, own and develop the manufacturing area and be responsible for the translation of the Global and Regional KPIs into the activities that provide your framework of operation and improvement for you and your team.

  • Act as a Safety Leader for the section by the active support and role modelling of Safety, Security and Environment programmes and reinforce safe behaviour of production team members. Ensure that all products comply with product specifications. Ensure that all Quality Policies and Safety regulations are in place, understood, monitored and followed by corrective actions.

  • Accountable for the Sections operational and financial performance in line with annual operating plan commitment. You will demonstrate and deliver strong financial control, compliance and improvement, through a proactive approach with regards to the total cost of manufacturing and conversion cost budgeting (DVL, ODVE, Fixed Cost & Waste).

  • Deliver according to production plan in line with conversion costs, loss rate and recipes. Responsible for production planning and scheduling following the demand requirements defined by Sales & Operational Planning process.

  • Responsible for materials management, replenishment of materials and achievement of raw and packaging inventory targets. Manage the interfaces with Procurement and suppliers if the situation requires. Ensure increase or decrease of production output by labour planning (eg use of temporary workers, seasonal staff, vacation planning) and assure contingency plans if needed.

  • Lead the Section team throughout all the phases of overall Site Improvement Roadmaps today and in the future by creation of the section roadmap and engagement and alignment of the team in its delivery. To enable this, you will ensure appropriate levels of training and development are in place to maintain business critical capability skills whilst developing individuals and teams to support personal growth and section maturity plans. Bear overall responsibility for establishing team culture by providing clear understanding of the requirements for the Business IL6S CI and Lean Manufacturing culture (eg KPWS organisation, Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM), behaviours, attitude and culture). Communicate plans and information to section teams, track and challenge progress follow through on all commitments.

  • Deliver operational and financial improvements through the consistent challenge of machine and machine standards, work processes and systems. You will identify profit margin enhancing opportunities, develop business benefit scenarios and through effective utilisation of CI processes and disciplines, implement improvement projects. You will actively lead and deliver on business supported improvements and investments, whilst ensuring existing operations and ways of working are optimised and aligned.

  • Acting as a change agent you will lead the section and influence the site team to develop the operational teams to achieve levels of ability, knowledge and independence (autonomy) that leverages team working and flexibility. Your proven history of supporting and leading change within organisations will be fundamental as the site maintains its quest to be the supplier of choice. The development of best practices within the section whilst offering cross site join up and to deliver site commitments will be a major part of the role.

  • As a business unit leader you must be able to understand the product/brand benefit to the consumer and work with BD&E, Finance, Commercial & Marketing to deliver consumer value opportunities and support growth and margin improvement. Challenge and implement productivity and consumer value enhancement opportunities through CI projects in the manufacturing unit. The role is integral in understanding, identifying and implementing value enhancement opportunities. Manage interfaces with Business Development and RD&Q for new products, new processes, product promotions, de-complexity projects.

  • Through the effective deployment of CI programmes and practices, deliver step change improvements to eliminate losses in all aspects of the balanced agenda (SQCDSM).


  • Degree level equivalent education in Manufacturing or Engineering

  • Manufacturing systems (SAP), good PC literacy (MS Office)

  • Strong people management skills, communication skills. Ability to lead and engage employees at all levels

  • Handling complexity, problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills

  • Business acumen, good planning and project management skills

  • Target setting for respective KPI

  • Provide clear understanding of the requirements for the Continuous Improvement Process

  • Experience of working in a High Preforming team work culture, embraces the essence of servant leadership and actively demonstrates a Learn Do Teach approach

  • In depht experience in Manufacturing environment (Production, Maintenance, Engineering preferred, Section Shift Manager experiences highly recommended)

  • Experience of managing function or team

  • English


  • Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, IL6S, TPM experience

  • Good knowledge of POM structure

  • Optional CI or TPM background is an advantage

  • Assignments or responsibilities in Quality and SSE
