Job Description:The Smart Device Innovation team is seeking an electronics intern for summer 2016 to design and build sustainable embedded systems for wearable applications using ultra-low-power and energy-harvesting technologies. The candidate should have experience in embedded systems development and programming, systems modelling and analysis, engineering design, and rapid prototyping technologies. A willingness to work on a hands-on project from start to finish is a must. He/she must be able to jump into multiple roles if necessary, so an interdisciplinary background in engineering (including circuit layout and design, systems analysis, design, and manufacturing) and physics (including semiconductors and materials science) is recommended.Candidate will:- Build embedded systems for wearable technology- Design ultra-low power embedded systems- Work to enable energy harvesting for self-powering new wearable technology- Layout, design, and test circuits- Support all parts of proof of concept work - hardware design, firmware, algorithms, app development, and device connectivity


Qualifications: Candidate Must Have:- At the level of BS the candidate must have Pernanent Right to Work in US. Minimum of 3 months experience with embedded systems design, programming and product development - Minimum 3 months of background experience in systems modelling and analysis- A solid understanding of the engineering design process and the ability to design for user needs and constraints- Experience using CAD for both circuit design and 3D design (SolidWorks preferred)- Experience using rapid fabrication technologies (3D printing, laser cutting, etc.) as well as traditional manufacturing technologies (i.e. machine shop experience)- The ability to program in different computer languages (C++ and Python are a must)- Experience working with electronics test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.- Experience working on open-ended design or research problems- Strong technical communication skills- People skills and team spirit You might also have: - An interest in low power design and the IoT as pertains to wearable technology- An interest in emerging electronics technologies, including relevant solid-state physics and materials science- Strong interest in aesthetics and professional product design - The ability to work quickly and independently- The ability to solve problems and deal with failure - Experience working in a research lab
