Cardiovascular Telemetry Schedule: 0.6 (24 hrs. per week, 8 hr. shifts); Shift: Nights; Alternate Weekends

3rdCV/PCU consists of 30 beds plus 14 beds that may be used for 3rdCV or PCU patients. The department services patients 16 years of age and older. The primary patient population has an average age of 65 years.

3rdCV/PCU provides telemetry monitoring for adult medical-surgical patients. Services are provided for a wide scope of adult cardiac patients with primary emphasis on; coronary artery bypass graft surgery, valve replacement, myocardial infraction, post cardiac cath procedures, arrhythmia, cardioversion, unstable angina, pacemaker placement, vascular surgery, and congestive heart failure. Scope of services on 3rdCV also includes general medical- surgical patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring via telemetry. The goal of the 3rdCV/PCU is to provide care for patients to return them to an optimal level of comfort/wellness. 3rdCV/PCU is also home to the Central Remote Monitoring System.

I. _GENERAL SUMMARY:_ _ _ Under general supervision, provides clinically competent professional nursing care.__ _ _ The Registered Nurse is responsible for patient assessment, development, implementation and coordination of the patients’ plan of care including the medical treatment plan and the evaluation of patient treatment. The Registered Nurse will function within the full scope of the RN licensure, according to the California Nursing Practice Act.

The Registered Nurse has primary accountability for monitoring patient outcomes. As the team coordinator of the patient care team (including but not limited to: physicians, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, technicians, and support and clerical staff), the Registered Nurse collaborates, directs, delegates, assigns, guides and serves as a resource to the department and the patient care team for patient care delivery.

The Registered Nurse promotes a cooperative working relationship with care team members, physicians, other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural and age differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner.

III. _MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:_ _ _ 1. Current California Registered Nurse License. 2. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification. 3. Advanced Life Support (ACLS, NIHSS) certification as required by specific hiring department criteria.

_ _ Minimum Experience:

  1. A Registered Nurse who has one (1) year of full-time equivalent or more prior Telemetry experience as a Registered Nurse.

  2. Ability to learn and utilize computerized patient care management system.

  3. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.

  4. Must maintain confidentiality.
