The Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist provides professional care in the outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program to Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation patients in accordance with physician orders and the multi-disciplinary plan of care. He/she uses evidence based practice of exercise, including but not limited to assessment, planning, implementation and re-evaluation to deliver and document patient care. Based on the diagnosis and co-morbidities, referral orders, the physician history and physical and cardiac stress test and the nursing assessment, the exercise specialist reviews the exercise prescription and reviews it regularly with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurses and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Medical Director. He/she assists the nurses in providing a progressive graded aerobic exercise program with telemetry monitoring. He/she provides a progressive strengthening and stretching exercise program as well. He/she assists in monitoring the patient vital signs during all activity and responds appropriately to any event. He/she provides daily documentation of exercise and education. He/she assists in providing patient education on exercise and activity, nutrition and diet, stress management. He/she consults with the registered dietician, physical therapist and social worker as needed.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist provide professional support in the outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program to Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation clients. He/she helps clients develop a maintenance program that will sustain goals made in Phase II.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist is directly responsible to the Manager of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services and the Director of Rehabilitation Services. He/she works closely with the department leadership and the Medical Director in stakeholder satisfaction assessment process, performance improvement and outcomes management.

SECTION II: QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum job criteria including educational requirements, licensure, registration, certification and equivalencies, and work experience. All education and degrees must be from an accredited institution.
B.S. / B.A. degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology Required.
Current Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Certification.
Certification by AACVPR preferred by not required.
1 Year experience in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Analytical skills necessary in order to handle non-routine, moderately complex administrative details.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must effectively read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.
Computer literate with knowledge, experience to operate word processing and spreadsheets in order to generate reports. Ability to learn and operate Kronos, Meditech, Excel, Word and patient care management systems.
Superior communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and positively with people. Ability to show understanding, patience, and tact when dealing with physicians, staff, and the public.
Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, follow instructions and maintain a high level of professional conduct.
