The primary functions of an armed security officer working at RMCSJ are to deter, to detect, to observe, to respond, and to report. These primary functions are successfully fulfilled through: Professional appearance by properly wearing the RMCSJ armed officer uniform; regular and consistent patrols of the hospital, the investigation of unusual incidents and suspicious persons; proactively seeking to recognize situations and events that could negatively impact the safety of hospital, employees, patients and visitors, as well as the observation of any and all violations of the policies and procedures of RMCSJ; responding to each appropriately and accordingly as a professional RMCSJ armed officer. Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather conditions on a regular basis, as well as on any shift during the week and on weekends as assigned by the supervisor. The RMCSJ armed security officer will also be required to perform the following duties: work with the RMCSJ security officer in responding to the needs the security needs of the hospital; enforcement of RMCSJ policies and procedures; enforcement of RMCSJ visitation policies; response to emergency codes; giving assistance to physicians and staff with the transportation of patients to and from helicopters; interface and work in conjunction with the San Jose Police Department regarding hospital business including criminal investigations, processing security reports and when required making citizen’s arrests; assisting hospital staff with non-compliant and combative patients and visitors; the use of CCTV equipment as a part of the overall security program, any and all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Minimum: Honorably retired law enforcement officer, with at least 10 years of law enforcement experience. CA guard card. Exposed fire arm permit or CCW (carry concealed weapon) approved- H.R. 218 Qualified badge required.


Minimum: Proficiency in English. Work under general supervision and prescribed procedures. All matters pertaining to being an armed security officer in a hospital setting.


Minimum: 60 College units. POST Certification.


Minimum: Must be able to endure long hours of standing and walking. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Must able to walk/climb 5 flights of stairs.
