Teradata Labs, the technology research and development (R&D) organization within Teradata Corporation, has been turning innovative decision support technology into business results for over 30 years. Our R&D team of analytic architects, database developers and engineers work to understand and advance emerging technologies to invent the next wave of cutting-edge analytic data solutions.
The Software Engineer will become a member of the Teradata Database Engineering team. This organization is responsible for implementing design, construction, unit testing and support of the Teradata Unity software solution. The successful candidate will work as a contributing member of the Unity development team to bring Unity into the cloud as a robust, highly available software product that supports and enhances the Teradata database product line.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Key contributor to the delivery of a robust, resilient, quality product into the cloud
Responsible for full software development lifecycle - application design, development and unit testing, database access, unit/integration testing using agile development techniques
Design and deliver products that meet specifications, with high standards in programming quality, style and organization
Provide internal and customer support of developed applications
Communicate effectively with other engineers and various stakeholders
Analyze and troubleshoot issues
Application performance tuning
Infrastructure and cloud support
This position is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA (San Diego). This fast-paced high tech environment is perfect for individuals seeking to exercise innovation and out of the box thinking to move our state of the art technology to the next level. This role is a working member of the team, with responsibility for the delivery of Teradata Database Products into the cloud. This includes design, construction, implementation, test case creation, unit, integration and system level testing and infrastructure support.
Skills & Attributes:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities:
Working knowledge of complex applications written in Python
Working knowledge of Linux operating systems
Familiarity with multi-threaded network applications
Knowledge of AWS and Azure cloud services
Knowledge of Agile Development as well as continuous integration/deployment methodologies
Knowledge of SQL
Knowledge Bourne class of shell scripting languages (sh, ksh, bash)
Strong analytical abilities involving complex software in a parallel processing environment
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Good written and oral communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree
Experience in Python programming
Familiarity with AWS, Azure or other cloud services
Knowledge of complex, multi-threaded network applications in a Linux environment
Familiarity with Linux kernel internals
Familiarity with open source
Familiarity with databases and SQL
Knowledge of Agile Software Development Life Cycle
Knowledge of C/C is a plus
Knowledge of Java is a plus
