The TASC Engineering Center provides comprehensive mission assurance, technology assessment, engineering analysis, and systems engineering support for solid and liquid propellant space launch and sounding rocket vehicles. This position is for a senior level engineer with related experience in rocket propulsion, ordnance, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems to support performance analysis, test oversight, anomaly investigation and resolution, design and hardware reviews, and systems engineering support. This position does include some amount of travel and on-site support as well as strong analytical capabilities.

Roles and Responsibilities (including some or all of the following):

  • Perform post-flight and post-static test reduction and analysis of liquid propellant rocket engine and solid propellant rocket motor performance data

  • Critical review of test contractor-generated plans and procedures and oversight of qualification and acceptance testing of liquid and solid propellant components and systems including assessing appropriate environments, duty cycles, test procedures, and test instrumentation

  • Review hardware pedigree and perform failure modes and effects analyses for: liquid propellant rocket engines; pressurized systems for both storable and cryogenic propellants; gas pressure-fed, expander, and multi-stage combustion turbo pump propellant feed systems; thrust vector control systems; exhaust nozzles with extendable exhaust cones; control and condition monitoring systems, and associated hydraulic, electromechanical, and ordnance systems

  • Assess technical risks relating to propulsion and ordnance components and provide recommendations for risk mitigation

  • Requires strong written and verbal presentation skills including: providing written reports of test observations; documentation of analysis with data in tabular and graphic form; providing input and peer review of analysis across departments; formal and informal presentation of work and assessments to critical audience of customers, independent reviewers, and contractors

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering

  • BS plus 5 years of experience in solid or liquid rocket motor propulsion and/or flight ordnance

Current Secret security clearance

  • Basic experience with Matlab, Python/SciPy, Fortran or other general numerical analysis codes and tools

  • Proficiency in using MS Office

  • Basic understanding of rocket propulsion theory with application to real world launch and spacecraft systems

  • Basic understanding of liquid propellant combustion chemistry, multiphase flow, and transient heat transfer

  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills

Desired Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Masters of Science degree (substitutes for 2 years of experience)

  • Understanding of missile engineering disciplines including guidance and controls, aerodynamics, structural dynamics

  • Ability to write software source code to perform analysis

  • ExperienceinLinux scripting and/or network programming

  • Experience using CAD modeling tools (Solid Works, ProE/Creo, AutoDesk
