    1. *Takes measures to ensure safe environment (scheduled patrolling, on demand response, etc.); understands and applies applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

    2. *Demonstrates effective leadership and management abilities; supervises staff.

    3. *Investigates and documents security violations.

    4. *Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of security equipment including handcuffs and taser.

    5. *Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of firearms and accessories.

    6. *Uses computers and telecommunications equipment including two-way radios, word processing, databases, electronic mail, fire alarm systems and security alarm systems.

    7. Demonstrates knowledge of local and state laws.

    8. Demonstrates knowledge of summons processes.

    9. *Responds appropriately to hospital emergency codes and other overhead announcements.

  1. *Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of the Use of Force continuum.

  2. *Ability to react appropriately in emergencies.

  3. *Ability to work independently and take command of situations as needed.

  4. *Assists with aggressive patient situations as needed.

  5. *Transports patients as needed between Hospital campus and Pavilion campus.

  6. *Assists with collection of patient’s valuables.

  7. *Secures landing site for helicopter arrival and departure.

  8. Assists with stalled vehicles as needed.

  9. Escorts individuals to vehicles as needed.

  10. *Enforces facility parking policies / plans; issues parking citations.

  11. Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and in-services.

  12. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital

  13. Is willing to work various schedules to include on demand scheduling for emergency situations

  14. Ability to exhibit a high level of independence.

  15. Ability to assess situations and respond quickly and appropriately.

  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

  17. Maintains the department schedule.

  18. Direct supervisor of subordinates to ensure operational readiness and effectiveness of department.

  19. Reviews incident reports completed by officers on shift; ensures complete and accurate reporting.

  20. Attends LGMC meetings and functions as required.



    Experience Required/: /

    • Job experience working with Lewis Gale Medical Center Security Department, Posses Armed Security certification through VA DCJS. At least 3-5 years prior Supervisory experience in LEO/Security.

    • Proven record of effective communication and being a positive member of the security team

    Preferred: Previous experience in security or law enforcement, particularly in a supervisory role 5 years

    Education / Credentials Required:

    • Valid Driver’s Licensure

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Advanced Certification./Newly hired employees are required to obtain within 120 calendar days of employment date./

    • Virginia Dept. of Criminal Justice Services Armed Security Officer or Special Conservator of the Peace certification./Newly hired employees are required to obtain within 180 calendar days of employment date./


    • Associate of Applied Science in related field
