POSITION SUMMARY * Under general direction of the Chief Operating Officer, proactively plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to the protection, safeguarding and security of company assets, employees, patients, visitors, vendors, and others; ensures that established goals and objectives are accomplished with prescribed priorities, time limitations and with fiscal responsibilities; advises, makes recommendations, assists in the formulation of goals and objectives; prepares routine and special reports; designs, implements and monitors security policies, procedures and programs; complies with federal, state and local legal regulations; and exercises independent judgment in the course of carrying out overall responsibilities and other activities as assigned. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Plans, directs, examines, analyzes, and evaluates LewisGale Medical Center Security operations. * Responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing departmental policy. * Identifies and resolves security related problems, developing and implementing improvement measures when appropriate. * Responsible for all investigation and occurrence reports written by the department and other related departments. * Directs and coordinates Security Department. Responsible for hiring, instructing, and orienting staff. * Ensures appropriate response from Security Department for all codes, incidents, and/or events. * Develops goals and objectives for the Security Department each year. * Maintains key control system, lost and found, and other functions as assigned. * Responsible for transferring Medical Center deposits to the bank. * Attends all required Medical Center meetings. * Reviews all logs daily and takes appropriate action. * Outlines and initiates all codes and drills pertaining to security. * Controls and manages the releasing of expired patients in accordance with facility policies. * Maintains employee and physician parking records. * Serves as liaison with public law enforcement, fire and other agencies as it relates to Security. * Maintains open communication with Chief Operating Officer concerning Security Department. * Manages all activities, processes, and protocols related to the Emergency Preparedness Plan and Emergency Services operations. * Responsible for monitoring, revising, and promoting all aspects of Emergency Preparedness and HAZMAT operations for LewisGale Medical Center. * Ensures documentation for Emergency Preparedness activities as mandated by external regulatingagencies, to include but not limited to: CMS, The Joint Commission, and HCA. * Serves as a mentor to staff on Emergency Preparedness, HAZMAT, and technical operations and serves as a positive example to physicians, employees, patients and families. * Collaborates with internal and external customers and agencies to integrate LewisGale Medical Center’s Emergency Operations Plan into the community. * Responsible for the development and implementation of an education program for all LGMC staff and administration regarding the Emergency Operations Plan. * Demonstrates effective leadership and management behaviors. * Provides clear written and verbal communication to staff, patients and other hospital personnel as indicated. * Proactively manages emergency preparedness products, supplies, and equipment in a cost effective manner. * Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital. * Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and inservices. * _ _


_Experience_ Required/: /
* Minimum five years of law enforcement/security experience. * Previous involvement in emergency preparedness and disaster response operations.

_Education / Credentials_ Required: * Valid Driver’s License * Basic Life Support (BLS) * International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Advanced Certification. /Newly hired employees are required to obtain within 120 calendar days of employment date./ * Virginia Dept. of Criminal Justice Services Armed Security Officer Certification. /Newly hired employees are required to obtain within 180 calendar days of employment date./

Preferred: * Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field * NIMS, ICS, or HAZMAT certification
