ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Services (IHS), Northern Plains Region, Great Plains Area, Nursing Department, Rosebud*, South Dakota. * Position reports to the Nursing Supervisor.

  • Ensures aseptic conditions exist at all times.
  • Circulates and/or scrubs in on surgical cases.
  • Pre-ops patients, by reviewing medical record for appropriately signed surgical consents, reviews H/P and laboratory work, provides IV therapy and provides pre-operative medication as ordered.
  • Ability to recover surgical patients according to recovery room standards of care.
  • Ability to oversee/assist surgeon in a clinical setting with minor procedures.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.# Must provide official Nursing transcripts.

An active, unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to the above, you must also meet the following minimum requirements for the grade level you wish to be considered for:

GS-09: 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level. GS-10: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level.

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

*Examples of specialized experience: *Experience with peri-operative nursing care during surgical operations. Experience and knowledge with providing care/treatment to patients in the Operating Room. Experience with administering medication and injections as directed by the attending physician.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Work Schedule: 40 Hours Per Week including Weekends and Holidays.
