ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Services (IHS), Northern Plains Region, Great Plains Area, Outpatient Nursing Department,* Rosebud, South Dakota. *Position reports to the Supervisory Outpatient Nurse.
This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the OCA register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur. The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 04/15/2016. Other Cut-off dates will be established based on the date requests for List of Eligibles are received to fill other vacancies. 10 pt. Veterans' Preference ESEP applicants who submit a complete application after a Cut-off date but before the List of Eligibles is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified. - Assesses patient care needs on the unit and adjust staff assignments appropriately, consulting with the unit supervisor as necessary.
- Assesses the biophysical, psychosocial, emotional, educational, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients as outlined in Unit Patient Care Standards.
- Participates in problem solving to make improvements in the delivery of patient care. Plans and develops for professional growth.
- Implements nursing interventions based on Unit Patient Care Standards. Consults with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients.
- Promotes harmonious relationships and professional attitudes among the healthcare team. Supports and adheres to hospital and nursing service polices and procedures.
- Occasional Travel
- Occasional travel may be required for training and/or other work related duties.
- Relocation expenses are authorized and will be paid. You will be required to sign a one year service agreement. Failure to fulfill the one year service agreement may result in repayment of relocation expenses

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): EDUCATION:**Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
REGISTRATION: Applicants MUST HAVE active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

GS-09:Master's or equivalent degree; OR, Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education); OR, One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level.
EVALUATION OF EXPERIENCE:*Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. At GS-9 grade level and above, many positions require experience in a specialty area of nursing.*
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:*For GS-9 grade level, you MUST have one (1) year of experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level) that included duties such as: Develop and implement a plan of care for assigned patients based on the nursing process. Provide nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluate effectiveness. Set up and operate specialized equipment. Provide nursing leadership in maintaining the function of the in-patient unit. Provide patient care in other areas as assigned within documented competency levels. Documents nursing activities regarding direct patient care, quality improvement, infection control, assignments, etc.*
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE DEFINED:**Specialized experience is professional knowledge of nursing process including, principles, practices and procedures of nursing care required to assess and care for nursing needs of medical, surgical, pediatric and geriatric patients and other types of patients as assigned. Ability to develop or participate in developing a plan of care to meet the needs of assigned patients. Ability to plan and direct the work of others. Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and to react swiftly in emergency situations. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.Skill in, and ability to, assess patients of all ages and with a variety of medical or surgical problems. Skill in the safe operation and use of specialized medical equipment. Knowledge of principles and methods of continuous quality improvement and ability to apply. Knowledge of, and ability to incorporate, cultural impact on health care provision.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts, Days, Evenings, and Weekends.
