ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Services (IHS), Northern Plains Region, Great Plains Area, Inpatient Nursing Department,* Rosebud, South Dakota. *Position reports to the Supervisory Inpatient/OB Nurse.
This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the OCA register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur. The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 04/15/2016. Other Cut-off dates will be established based on the date requests for List of Eligibles are received to fill other vacancies. 10 pt. - Assesses patient care needs, performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassess the patient as per policy. Assess the delivery of nursing care; identifies problems and opportunities for improvement.
- Participates in problem solving to make improvements in the delivery of patient care in collaborations with the staff and nursing administration.
- Assess and identifies the biophysical, psychosocial, emotional, educational, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and their families.
- Formulates nursing interventions based on appropriately identified nursing diagnosis. Consults with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals on patients to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimen for patients.
- Promotes harmonious relationships and professional attitudes among the health care team.
- Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitate measures bases on appropriate utilization of protocols. Administers therapeutic and emergency measures as prescribed by the physician, such as medications, treatments, procedures and intravenous fluids.
- Provides patient and family education which include counseling and assisting the patient/family to understand and accept implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment.

- Occasional travel may be required for training and/or other work related duties.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). EDUCATION:**Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. (One year of nursing experience as a military corpsman that has been accepted by a State licensing body may be accepted in lieu of education at the GS-4 level.)
REGISTRATION: Applicants MUST HAVE active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

GS-05:* *Completion of a program of less than 30 months' duration; OR, One (1) year of professional nursing (or at least a GS-04 grade level practical nurse or nursing assistant experience under the supervision of a professional nurse); OR, Bachelor's degree or four (4) academic years above high school (or completion of a program of at least 30 months duration).
GS-07:**Completion of a professional nursing program; AND, One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level; OR, Bachelor's degree with 'superior academic achievement', OR, One (1) full year of graduate education.
GS-09:**Master's or equivalent degree; OR, Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education); OR, One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-07 level, You MUST have one (1) year of experience (equivalent) to the GS-05 grade level that included duties such as: Performing duties as a Clinical Nurse in a healthcare clinic or hospital providing care to all ages of patients. Preventative care teaching and patient education .
Specialized Experience:**For GS-9 grade level, you MUST have one (1) year of experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level) that included duties such as: Develop and implement a plan of care for assigned patients based on the nursing process. Provide nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluate effectiveness. Set up and operate specialized equipment. Provide nursing leadership in maintaining the function of the in-patient unit. Provide patient care in other areas as assigned within documented competency levels. Documents nursing activities regarding direct patient care, quality improvement, infection control, assignments, etc.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
