Nurse Practitioners perform their activities as delegated by the supervising physician, or alternate supervising physician. The experience and training of the Nurse Practitioner, the condition of the patient, and the nature of the procedure being performed determine the degree of participation of the supervising physician. Specific privileges include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients. Review patient records.

  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients.

  • Perform procedures and selective medical services (including diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health care procedures) as appropriate under the direction of a physician.

  • First responder in the Emergency Department to provide patient care intervention under the direction of physician (Emergency Department/Orthopedic Surgeon/Trauma Surgeon).

  • Available for inpatient consults under the direction of a physician.

  • Available for urgent calls regarding trauma patients in the Emergency Department, ICU, and other inpatient departments.

  • Available to assist in Operating Room (preoperative care, surgical assistance and postoperative care).

  • Keep accurate progress notes and dictate discharge summaries.

  • Appropriately communicates with physicians regarding any patient care issues.

  • Communicates effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.

  • Functions independently in an organized and time conscious manner.

  • Presents self in a professional manner.

  • Shows flexibility as it relates to staffing needs of the inpatient and Emergency Department units

  • Responsible for professional growth and development. Keeps records of in services, seminars and certifications for yearly evaluation.

  • Complies with professional, regulatory, governmental and departmental standards.


  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program, Master’s Degree (required) LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
  • Current Nurse Practitioner License in this state (required)
  • Knowledge of orthopedic, acute care, and trauma care practices (required) JOB LOCATION:
