HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Magnet Coordinator in Richmond, Virginia

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. In collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership, assumes system-wide responsibility for coordination of the ANCC Magnet application, designation and re-designation process.

  1. Provides administrative consultation for staff assigned to the Magnet project and administrative leadership to a variety of staff directly involved in achieving Magnet status.

  2. Serves as the Magnet advisor to the leadership teams and the liaison to the ANCC Magnet office.

  3. Develops written reports related to assessments and recommends change in the clinical practice environment which may be required in order to achieve Magnet status.

  4. Supports Nursing Administration in assuring that the organization milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet.

  5. Provides administrative direction for the Shared Governance operations of the market nursing departments.

  6. Communicates routinely with the Chief Nursing Officers concerning the GAP analysis and recommends needed plan of action pertinent to the efficient operation of nursing departments.

  7. Develops strategic and tactical plans for obtaining/retaining Nursing Magnet status at market facilities.

  8. Proactively scans the environment, literature, etc. to identify opportunities for improvement to meet and/or maintain Magnet designation requirements.

    1. Performs all other duties as requested or assigned.


    • Master’s Degree in nursing or related field.

    • Current license to practice Nursing in Virginia.

    • Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication and change management.

    • Demonstrated excellence in written communication as well as public speaking and presentation skills.

    • Demonstrated excellence in time management and organization.

    • Demonstrated excellence in critical thinking and decision making skills.

    • Demonstrated excellence in education and clinical practice.

    • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills (e-mail, word processing).
