Job Assignment

To provide skilled intensive psychiatric treatment services to patients with mental illness with mixed diagnosis, who are in need of crisis intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation. To develop and implement recreation therapy techniques and practices utilizing known and established theoretical concepts to the adolescent, geriatric, and adult psychiatric populations that are appropriate to the individual patients' level of functioning. Such therapeutic services are designed to facilitate psychological, social, cognitive, leisure, and daily living skills through comprehensive rehabilitative, leisure education, and experiential recreation participation model while meeting therapeutic recreation standards of practice as well as regulatory compliance with JCAHO, HCFA and CMHIP policy and procedure.

Job Duties

As a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, independently perform Recreational Therapy (RT) assessments by gathering information, interviewing patient, and making treatment recommendations in the functional modality areas of physical, social, leisure, cognitive, emotional, psychological, and daily living needs and skills. Design RT service plans for a forensic population to include modalities of leisure education, physical, cognitive, psychological, and daily living skills designed to foster treatment progress, independent and leisure choices, and functioning in patient participation. Implement a needs specific RT treatment plan program by conducting groups and 1:1's, including counseling, evaluation, education, and recreation participation for the patient population on an intermediate locked security unit including outings in the community. Provide documentation including progress notes, monthly summaries, and evaluations showing patient's progression or regression as it correlates to problems, objectives, and interventions; then evaluate, modify, and adapt changes as necessary. Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team in developing the patient Treatment Plan formulation and reviews to formulate long and short-term goals while incorporating Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program, and the contingency management program. Develop community reintegration program to develop skills and behaviors that would deter inappropriate social attitudes and teach abilities that would promote positive opportunities for high-risk patients while in the community; periodically analyze the effectiveness of the treatment objectives and outcomes. Develop area of advanced RT concentration using training and experience to benefit the patients. Attend and participate in workshops, in-services, and training mandated by CMHIP policy and the RT Department, including keeping up with CTRS certification. Participate in department, division, and agency meetings and committees in cooperation with other disciplines, peers, and supervisors. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

*Minimum Qualifications: *

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Recreational therapy and two years experience providing therapeutic treatment, habitation, rehabilitation and/or instruction of clients in an ongoing therapeutic program applicable to Recreational therapy area.

Must possess and maintain certification with the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals in a mental health or behavioral health setting
