Engility is recruiting for a Network Engineer to join a small and geographically distributed team of dedicated IT security professionals who support our customer in a high performance computing research environment. Candidates must be smart, passionate self-starters and be able to solve complex problems with minimal supervision. A desirable candidate can expect to work in a fast paced, highly technical, and highly rewarding environment.

The candidate will be responsible for the administration of the infrastructure firewalls, routers, and switches at four different sites, working with the immediate security team alongside an infrastructure team that manages the servers on the network. Occasional CONUS travel (once per quarter)

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Execute approved network based change management requests

  • Support and create security reports

  • Administration of the local VoIP network

  • Troubleshoot Network based failures and anomalies

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of experience in network engineering

  • Experience with Enterprise grade Cisco and Juniper Equipment

  • Working knowledge and troubleshooting experience of Virtual Local Area Network (VLANs), Routing, and OSI Layer 2 to Layer 7 protocols, TCP/IP protocol, and server-based SSL and PKI

  • Proficiency in networking within a heterogeneous environment e.g. Windows, MacOS, Linux

  • Knowledge of remote access methods e.g. VPN, SSH tunneling

  • WAN/LAN routing protocols.

  • Firewall and/or security products

  • Network troubleshooting

  • Operations and Maintenance for network equipment

  • Cisco and Juniper environments

  • Excellent customer-facing communication and consultation skills

  • Excellent communication skills (with managers and/or scientists)

  • Technical Writing Experience

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional project environment

  • Independent self-starter

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current and/or past network certifications


  • Working knowledge and troubleshooting experience in packet-level network analysis

  • Experience with scripting (shell / perl /bash / python/ruby)

  • Experience within in an HPC environment or large server/data center environment

  • Knowledge of cloud networking and virtual networking technologies
