The selectee for this position serves as an Engineer at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWARSYSCEN) Atlantic *located in *St. Julian's Creek, VA.

Duties
  • Provide software sustainer support in the general area involving an organization's systems (e.g., Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C4I) Systems and Submarine Operating Authority (SOA) applications etc.) to meet customer and/or stakeholder requirements.

  • Assist with the selection of appropriate design methodology (i.e., object-oriented, function-oriented, and component-based) and strategies for the completion of project-level task assignments.

  • Consult with experts in other specialty areas to develop integrated action plans for the organization.

  • Participate in daily Scrum meetings, working closely with the Scrum Master and Scrum Team to ensure development teams are productive and tasks are completed as planned.

  • Convey ideas and concepts (e.g., explain rationale and provide recommendations etc.) to upgrade and/or enhance the level of software support services provided.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Applicants must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering with a curriculum that (1) was from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statistics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Possess a combination of education and experience. Successful completion of college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: A) Professional Registration -Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rick. B) Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineering-in-training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Applicants who have passed the EIT examination and have completed all the requirements for either (a) a bachelor's degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college or university that included 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, or (b) a BET from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) will also be acceptable. C) Specified Academic Courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in response A above. D) Related Curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had a least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

In addition, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11grade level or ND-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate assisting with the design, development, implementation, and integration of software applications and programs using the principles, techniques, and practices of software development.

REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final Top Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualifications Matrix associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for positon to which you are assigned with.

Participate in a continuous learning program. A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by the both the employee and supervisor.
