GNC Live Well Nutritionist in Portland, Oregon

The purpose of this position is to provide dietary and nutritional advice and guidance to GNC customers. As a representative of GNC, this position will also engage in community outreach activities and events that support the GNC brand and GNC customers’ desire to live well.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide expert nutrition support to customers and associates across 2 or more retail locations.

  • Use evidence-based nutrition guidelines, product information and available resources to educate customers and assist them in reaching their goals.

  • Design dietary, nutritional supplement and lifestyle regimens tailored to individual customer needs.

  • Provide evidence-based nutrition recommendations and content on a variety of topics (wellness, conditions, weight management, and sport performance).

  • Remain current with regard to knowledge about best practices and current trends in nutrition and dietary supplements.

  • Develop and run workshops in and outside of our stores to educate the community on nutrition.

  • Collaborate with the store team to train and broaden associate nutritional understanding.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with customers and co-workers.

  • Effectively engage with customers.

  • Advanced knowledge of nutritional supplements and the ability to communicate this verbally and through written communication to store staff, our customer base, and event audiences with a high level of energy.

  • Ability to conceive and design training programs based on regimens and goals for store teams, customer audiences, and businesses that deliver expertise on the topic, while conveying GNC’s vision and values.

  • Retail specialty nutrition experience a plus

  • Strong execution standards in company initiatives with a proven track record of success.

(Field Ops will put together community marketing programs that need to be executed at

high level with creativity in adapting toward the target audience)

Tactical Qualities

  • Strong time management and scheduling aptitude. Self-motivator able to achieve goals with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to establish relationships and develop partnerships with small and large businesses, leading to seminars and events to drive traffic to GNC locations.

  • Develop partnerships within the health and fitness community to promote the brand and increase store customer base through increased local health event presence.

  • Participate in and execute New Store Opening events with a set “Seminar” program that informs and educates the community base, creating a connection with the community.

  • Maintain flexible schedule – nights and weekends necessary.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics/Nutrition Science related field and 4+ years’ experience in the food or supplement industry or Master’s Degree in Nutrition and 2+ years of industry experience.

  • Licensure within the state of practice

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license

  • Maintain RD and state licensure credentials


  • Master’s Degree in Nutrition.

  • Registered Dietitian (RD).

Skills and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills (written and oral).

  • Competency using nutritional software program, The Food Processor SQL (ESHA)

  • Self-reliant, self-starter, flexible

  • Honesty and integrity and high standards for the quality of work produced

  • Excellent communication and customer relations

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment in a highly organized fashion.

  • Critical focus towards timelines and key deliverables.

  • Must be able to critically read research publications and technical documents.

  • Needs to be able to interact with sales and marketing professionals

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None currently.

Work Environment / Travel / Physical Demands

  • Position will have required hours that will be scheduled in store(s) and will be focused on customer engagement and counseling. Additional office hours will be necessary to complete written responses to customer’s emailed questions or return customer calls. Time will also be spent completing community outreach programs and promotional events.
