This position can be filled by a Medical Officer (Psychiatry), Clinical Psychologist or Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric). This position is located within the Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service, Fort Peck Service Unit, Poplar, MT. Administer, score, interpret psychological tests of children, adolescents, and adults. Conduct psychological tests for differentiating between organic and functional causes of emotional disturbances and/or behaviors. Provide assessment, diagnosis and psychotherapy utilizing a broad range of therapeutic techniques as indicated by the specific needs of adult and juvenile individuals and groups, and their families. Formulate patient treatment plans and treatment recommendations through contribution of psychological and personality assessments and diagnostic evaluations and knowledge of treatment modalities.
Prescribe medications for psychiatric and behavioral health conditions. Collaborate with Primary Care Providers in relationship to overall treatment plan for medical and behavioral health conditions. Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, chart reviews and plans for improving performance of the Clinical Psychologist Medication Prescribing Program.
Indirect Patient Care and Case Management as well as community/patient support Crisis management of patients including after hours on call consultation services on a rotating basis

Prescriptive Authority - Knowledge of medical and psychopharmacologic sciences leading to licensure as an independent psychological practitioner with prescriptive authority. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below: Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown below: To qualify based on specialized experience for GS-14 level, you must have one year of experience (equivalent to the GS-13) level that included duties such as: Perform assessment and brief treatment for a wide range of psychological and behavioral health disorders using a variety of therapy modalities. Provide individual, group and family psychotherapy on an acute and situation-specific basis utilizing a wide range of treatment techniques. Provide evaluation and initial treatment in complex cases involving the probability of mental illness, neuropsychological, and behavioral aspects of chronic disease, development disability, and substance use and abuse disorders. Recognize and addresses psychological symptoms and conditions using the bio-psychosocial model. Work with primary care provider to monitor and manage "high-utilization", "at risk", and "chronic" patients/MP supports primary care provider decisions and recommendations by reinforcing/elaborating on provider-patient interventions. Provide effective triage of patients in need of referral to behavioral health clinic. Conduct in-depth evaluations and diagnosis of psychiatric needs of patients across the developmental spectrum; for example (formulating and implementing plan of care involving various treatment modalities, prescribing medications, and consulting with other health care providers and referrals. Provide psychological evaluation, crisis intervention, and suicide assessments in complex cases involving the probability of mental illness, neuro-psychological conditions, chronic disease, development disability, and substance use and abuse disorders. Serve as fact witness in civil cases involving diminished capacity and cases of civil commitment - including potentially dangerous clients involved in involuntary commitment proceedings. Ensure patient progress notes are written in a timely manner in order to provide adequate information for other health care providers. Provide consultation services for psychotropic medications. Provide indirect patient care through telephonic intervention, consultation with collateral resources, and referral to specialty services/external resources. consults with Behavioral Health staff, physicians, and nurses on the emergency psychiatric management of acute psychiatric patients, patients exhibiting significant suicide risks, victims of assault and family violence, and patients who are acutely intoxicated and/or belligerent. Provide telephone consultation to emergency room providers. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
