Achieve a fair pricefor tooling in support of the design, build and sale of the world's greatestvehicles. This is accomplished by:

  • Evaluating manufacturing and tooling processes with a clear understanding of the labor and material costs involved in building stamping dies and/or plastic injection molds, castings, and related assembly tooling to determine best practices for the manufacture of GM parts and estimating the fair cost for that tooling
  • Analyzing tooling breakdowns from GM Purchasing and suppliers for accuracy and completeness
  • Seeking process improvements and cost reductions for vendor tooling
  • Serving as a partner to production/manufacturing on all tooling related issues
  • Summarizing tooling details in reports to present to suppliers, GM Engineering, and Purchasing representatives
  • Understanding roles and responsibilities between Tier 1 suppliers and GM
  • Visiting tooling manufacturing facilities to stay abreast of current andnew tool building technologies and facility capabilities.


  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, design, and construction in any of the following disciplines:

  • Sheet metal stamping

  • Plastic injection molding
  • Metallic die, powdered metal, sand, or semi-permanent casting
  • Welding and assembly tooling

  • Tooling construction and machining knowledge

  • Experience benchmarking cost for metallic die, stamping, casting, plastic injection molds, and welding and assembly tools
  • Design/Engineering/Manufacturing of component tools
  • Vehicle powertrain, body, trim, and/or component experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities where issues are complex
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to teamwork and partnerships as it relates to cross-functional partners
  • Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • Self-starter and self-motivated

  • Bachelor degree inEngineering, IET, or Manufacturing preferred or Journeyman status
  • 5 years working inthe GM system
