General Motors Lead Cost Engineer - Powertrain - GPS0001210 in Pontiac, Michigan

Position Summary:

Develop plans and lead Cost Engineering activities to execute powertrain programs at lowest possible cost. This position will primarily focus on cost reduction activities on current (legacy) products. Develop and utilize competitive component and/or system cost analysis to recommend robust cost effective solutions.Articulate available estimates, cost drivers, and content tradeoffs to Powertrain Teams. Drive costeffective decisions to meet program financial targets, while supporting the executionof class leading powertrains/vehicles for the customer. The successful candidate will have strong proven leadership skills and project aptitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and conduct cost development/cost reduction/cost containment/gap closure activities as required by Cost Plan or requested by Program manager/Chief Engineer
  • Work with product team leadership to develop and maintain cost plan with timing to appropriately support program cost objectives and product content changes for all assigned programs
  • Initiate review of Allowable Cost documents prior to eSOR submission with Program Manager
  • Support sourcing board reviews-Pre-RFQ, Update, Recommendation
  • Support Gate and other Leadership reviews with Cost/Benchmark informationpertinent to program execution
  • Maintain alignment between PE BOM (BA/GPDP Phases) and Product Costbook
  • Participate and support design reviews, PPDRS and product cost performance metric results for costing plan
  • Work cooperatively with the product team to determine program specific requirements
  • Coordinate with Local and Global counterparts
  • Manage and balance Cost Engineering resources to meet Cost Plan requirements, walk-up work, and capability development. Negotiate timing for cost analysis projects as necessary
  • Support the development of budget and headcount targets with workload projections, and support creation/update of ESW as needed

Required Experience:

·Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering (mechanical, materials, electrical, aerospace, manufacturing, metallurgical,or chemistry)

·Ability to prioritize projects within time constraints

·Adept at working with a complex bill of materials

·Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes and assembly techniques

·Ability to network and collaborate cross-functionally to enhance cost knowledge

·Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities where problems are complex

·Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork and partnerships

·Must be willing and able to create and present information to leadership, and customers in a clear and concise manner

·Must be able to use MS Office Suite and be able to Highly proficient Personal Computer skills, technology driven

Preferred Skills and Experience:

·Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration or related advanced degree

·Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes and process control parameters

·Accounting principles

·Product development experience

·Knowledge of Global Cost Engineering processes and procedures

·Knowledge of costing evolution during the Product development cycle
