General Motors FEA Project Engineer - GPS0000113 in Pontiac, Michigan

The GPS FEA Project Engineer will conduct structural analyses for a wide variety of engine components such ascylinder heads, cylinder blocks, head gaskets, exhaust manifolds, turbochargers,& brackets.Responsibilities include the creation of finite element models of these components/assemblies and execution of analysis to assess and/or modify the characteristics of these components to meet design requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide component-level and/or system-level design recommendations to Design Responsible Engineers based on interpretation of analysis results
  • Exercise analytical models using appropriate commercial and/or in-house proprietary software
  • Retrieve and modify Unigraphics (NX) models of engine components and assemblies to support the creation of finite element models
  • Continuous enhancement of current standard analysis practices and/or tools to improve prediction fidelity and/or execution speed, and development of new methods
  • Participate in product design and development teams and regularly present analysis results to engineering peers and management
  • Document analysis objectives, conclusions, results, and assumptions
  • Cooperatively work with test engineers to enhance laboratory procedures to support the development of first-time capable analysis techniques
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Travel as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years experience with structural analysis of powertrain components and systems
  • 5+ years experience in computer-aided math-based analysis components inPowertrain Structural Durability
  • Highly proficient with Abaqus
  • Highly proficient with Fe-safe/FEMFAT
  • Highly proficient with Hypermesh, Simlab or equivalent meshing & post-processing software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • Good understanding of non-linear analysis, failure theories and multi-axial fatigue
  • Experience with Isight, Tosca or other optimization software
  • Experience with component and/or material testing
  • Proficient with MATLAB & scripting
  • Knowledge of variation simulation analysis
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Thorough system-level understanding of SI and/or diesel internal combustion engines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
